Who knew that a cartoon about protecting the planet and fighting pollution and smog could be enjoyable week after week?  Growing up I was a huge fan of Captain Planet and would watch it with my brothers.  Everyone's favorite LeVar Burton, along with Martin Sheen, Meg Ryan and Whoopie Goldberg lend their voices for this cast of 5 teenagers and a super cool super hero whose goal each episode was to protect the planet.  This popular series spanned 113 episodes and continues to be a fan favorite all these years later.  Don't believe me?  Ask other kids of the 80's and 90's who pre-ordered this release once they heard it was releasing.  I still have a few Captain planet toys, and my brother was telling me about how he has his comic books still.  So to say I was excited when I got my hands on a copy of the Captain Planet: The Complete Franchise was an understatement.

For the past few weeks I having been sharing a part of my childhood with my two girls, and while it took them a little while to get onboard, they are now fans of the series, and look forward to watching a few episodes with me after we finish our homeschooling each day.  It will take us a while to get through all 113 episodes, but it is worth it, as this really was a well put together series and had a great message that still resonates today -- we need to do our part to protect our planet for generations to come.  This series is a great way to educate children about climate change and share ways they can help to protect the planet and be heroes like Captain Planet. :-)
