If you were to look at my personal Facebook page you would see be sharing lots of recipes that come across my feed on a daily basis. I have lost count of how many different FB groups I am in for comfort cooking, baking, holiday recipes, Italian home cooking and so many others. Not only am I am foodie, but I love to buy and collect cookbooks, and have bookcases full of them. When the holidays roll around, that is my time to pull out cookbooks and flag recipes I want to try, to share new recipes with family and friends. And, many of my go-to potluck dishes come from recipes I have found either online or in my 100's of cookbooks (no joke), all of which receive rave reviews and I am always asked to make again and share the recipe.
Since starting my holiday gift guides on my blog 15 years ago, I have always included new cookbooks that I have stumbled upon and am loving. And, this year is no different. The first cookbook I wanted to share with you today is from a viral cooking and lifestyle influencer, who my youngest daughter turned me on to. Yes, can you believe it took my daughter looking for a recipe for me to make for her to stumble upon Mama Bell. Ever since then, I have been hooked, and was so excited when I found out she was coming out with a cookbook that I could grab and add to my collection. :-)
Now I know what you are thinking? Why do you need so many cookbooks, especially now that you can just do a quick search online and print out recipes. I guess I am old school, and like flipping through a cookbook, and flagging recipes to try with post it notes. I even make notations on the recipe pages to remind me if the recipe was good or not once I tried a recipe, and any tweaks I made, or who liked it. Out of all my cooks, there are only a few shelves of books that actually have a cookbook full of recipes I like and that I make time and again. You know what I am talking about if you ever buy a cookbook -- how many recipes in the book do you actually make and like? Well, with the "Mama Bell's Big Family Cooking" cookbook, published by Simon & Schuster, this book is going on the shelf of cookbooks that is jam-packed with must try and make again recipes. I read my cookbooks like books, cover to cover, and flag recipe pages I want to try. When it came time to reading this cookbook, I found myself flagging each and every page. All the recipes looked so good -- be warned, don't go through this cookbook on an empty stomach, as it is will be cruel punishment. Many of the recipes have full color photos of the dishes that will have your mouth watering and you wishing you had the food right in front of you to eat.
I have only had this cookbooks for a couple weeks, but have already made over a dozen recipes of meals and desserts for my family to enjoy. Just this evening I made the carnitas recipe below, and like all other Mama Bell recipes I have whipped up, it was a hit and there were no leftovers.
My husband really enjoyed this recipe and asked before we left the table when I would be making it again. So another winning dinner thanks to Mama Bell and her cookbook filled with over a 100 comfort food recipes perfect for family's big and small. I love comfort food recipes, especially during the cold winter months, and will be trying more and more recipes this winter as the cookbook offers some amazing chili and soup recipes, as well as crockpot/slow cooker meals. We had Izzy's slow cooker taco chili last weekend with homemade tortilla chips, and it was delicious! Prep was super easy, and I liked returning after a day out to a home cooked meal waiting for us. The house smelled amazing, and we couldn't get the table set fast enough, to sit down and enjoy this hearty and flavorful chili. I highly recommend this taco chili if you pick up the cookbook. I know you and your family will enjoy it, like we did!
Here are just a few of the recipes I wanted to highlight from this cookbook, as I have made them all and they were all a hit with my family. I had to share Mama Bell's peanut butter chocolate chip cookies recipe as that is the recipe my daughter was looking for when she stumbled upon Mama Bell for the first time, and now whenever the girls want cookies, this is what I make. :-)
If you love cookbooks just as much as I do, or know someone who does, why not pick up the new "Mama Bell's Big Family Cooking" cookbook today?
