Kids Just Finished School? How To Make The Rest Of The Day Super Fun

When you bring the kids home from school, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of energy they still have. Similarly, it’s easy for them to be tired out and bored, and sick of the sight of the homework they still have left to do!

But no matter what state your child comes home in, you can make the rest of the day super fun for them. This is good for a variety of reasons, but most of all it ensures school isn’t the biggest thing in their day! This means they associate home with having fun, feeling relaxed, and being loved.

Have a Yummy Snack Waiting

If there’s a great snack waiting for them when they get home, that won’t interrupt their dinner, the kids are going to love coming home at the end of the school day. Berry yogurts, dip plates with plain crisps, apple slices, hummus and carrot sticks, plain or lightly buttered popcorn, etc., are all wonderful items to have ready to go once the kids come through the front door. They’re also super easy to make, so if you’re coming straight from work, it won’t take much to throw them together!

Be Creative Together

When you’re creative with your kids, you show them just how much fun their own imagination can be. The best creative toys for kids vary wildly as well; playsets that let them pretend to be like you, art and craft supplies, instruments that are easy to play - you can be creative with pretty much anything! Break some of these out after a long day at school and get your kids to use their brains, but in a fun way. It’ll help them to decompress and clear their heads.

Get Outside for a Bit

Being cooped up in a classroom sucks! Even when you’re allowed out to play at lunch time, that’s still only 30 or so minutes of outdoor time on a regular school day. So why not stop off at the local park or the nearby pier before you head home? Let the kids run around, or sit and bask in the sun for a few minutes, and then hop back in the car or walk from there. The more you encourage outside play time like this, the more the kids are going to turn to it (rather than screens!) when they get older.

Help with Homework

Homework is often boring. It can also be a bit complicated, with even some parents being stumped by it these days! However, if you can sit the kids down altogether and guide them through their worksheets, the tasks will go twice as fast. Sure, you may have to exercise your own brain a bit to get back into the groove of completing homework, but the kids will certainly appreciate the help. Plus, it’s always more fun to do something with mom or dad!

If it’s home time, come up with a couple of fun activities for the kids!
