I was excited to learn that a book I read in a book club was being turned into a movie and would star one of my favorite actors, Tom Hanks, in the leading role.  "A Man Called Ove" was first published by Swedish writer, Fredrik Backman in 2012, and then went on to be released in English in 2013. Eighteen months later the book found its way to the New York Times Best Seller List and stayed there for 42 weeks.  In addition the two book releases, this popular book also found it ways to the big screen with the first release in Sweden in 2015, and then this past December it was an English version was released.  

 

This movie was top on my list on movies to see in theaters, but unfortunately my youngest was sick, so I missed "A Man Called Otto" in theaters.  So, I have been patiently counting down the days for this movie to release to digital and on Blu-ray, especially after family and friends who saw it in theaters wouldn't stop raving about the movie, and how they, too, planned to buy the movie when it released on Blu-ray or Digital, so that they could watch it again and again.

Well, the wait is finally over.  "A Man Called Otto" is now available on Digital, and arrives to Blu-ray tomorrow from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  When I went to get the mail today, I was happy to find a screener of this movie waiting for me.  With the impending snow storm here in New England and snow day for the kids tomorrow, I knew tonight would be the perfect night for an impromptu family movie night, and I had just the movie to watch - "A Man Called Otto."

After dinner tonight, we settled in to watch this movie, and I have to give you fair warning, if you tear up at sentimental movies, you will definitely want to have a box of tissues handy.  Not only will you find yourself crying, but this movie also has great humor and will have you laughing, too.  Usually I am not a fan of books to movies, but this movie, based on the international bestseller, worked.  I have to say, while I liked the when I read it a few years ago, the movie was even better. Maybe it was because it starred Tom Hanks, and whenever he is in a leading role, his performance is top notch -- or, maybe it was because with everything going on in this world, it is nice to find a wholesome movie that will pull at your heartstring one minute, and then have you laughing the next.  Whatever the reason, I am so glad we made time for a family movie night tonight, as it was a great way to end a Monday.  

My husband and girls really enjoyed this movie. And, after we were doing watching it, we talked about how you don't need to be blood related to be "family," as seen in this movie.  I could go on and on about how great this movie is, and how you shouldn't pass up the opportunity to watch it, but, instead, why not order it on Digital or buy it when it becomes avaialable on Blu-ray tomorrow and see for yourself why my family and so many others are loving "A Man Called Otto."  We can't wait for this weekend to arrive as we plan to watch it again -- it was that good!
