THE WORLD’S MOST POPULAR DISPLAY OF LEGO® ART WILL TAKE RESIDENCY IN BOSTON
BEGINNING FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2022 THOUGH APRIL 23, 2023
The Exhibition Features Incredible Works of Art Made from Nearly 1 Million LEGO Bricks by Contemporary Artist Nathan Sawaya
We were bummed back in 2014 when The Art of the Brick came to Faneuil Hall in Boston, and we couldn't get tickets to see it, as the exhibition sold out. So, when I heard Nathan Sawaya was returning with his stunning LEGO creations this year, I made a point to add it to my calendar to get tickets as soon as they released to the public. Tickets are available right now through pre-sale, and then will be going on sale to general public starting next Tuesday, November 14th. Before I could get my tickets to bring my family to see the exhibition (this time in the Back Bay), I received an email today asking if I wanted to attend an advanced preview. My day was made when I got this email, and I was quick to respond with a "YES!!!" I was going to try and keep it a surprise with my husband and girls, but I was just too excited, and knew they would be too when they heard the news. So, I shared the news, and my youngest let out a large squeal of excitement. Today is her birthday, so she said this was the best birthday gift ever, even if the preview isn't for a couple more weeks. She has been a LEGO fan ever since she was little, and loves saving up her money to buy LEGO kits to build and display in her room. She has taken classes with Corey, the LEGO Master, looks forward to trips to the LEGO store to stock up on building bricks, and will read her growing collection of LEGO magazines time and time again. So, I know she especially will be excited when we travel to Boston in a couple weeks to see this exhibition.
With the holidays fast approaching, why not consider buying tickets to The Art of the Brick and bringing your family to Boston for the day. You can take in this amazing, one of a kind exhibition together, and then spend the day taking in the sights of Boston, including the holiday window displays in Downtown Crossing, and walking the Boston Common to see the lights, before doing a little ice skating at Frog Pond. We love visiting Boston at Christmas-time, and now have something else to look forward to -- finally seeing the The Art of the Brick exhibition up close. Woohoo!!! I can't wait to share photos and our experience at the preview, so be sure to watch my social channels and blog for post-shows pictures and review.

Centrally located in the Back Bay area of Boston, the newly renovated Newbury Street location will introduce visitors to a reimagined museum-like experience, with breathtaking contemporary art at every turn. The collection features original pieces as well as re-imagined versions of some of the world's most famous art masterpieces made exclusively from LEGO bricks like Da Vinci's Mona Lisa and Van Gogh's Starry Night and as well as a gallery showcasing an innovative, multimedia collection of LEGO brick infused photography that Sawaya produced in collaboration with award-winning photographer Dean West.
THE ART OF THE BRICK also includes fan favorite, Yellow, a sculpture of a man ripping his chest open with thousands of yellow LEGO bricks cascading from the cavity.
In addition, visitors will be able to walk beside a 20-foot-long T-Rex dinosaur skeleton made out of bricks and come face-to-face with a giant LEGO skull.
“This bespoke Boston art installation explores some new themes I’m excited to showcase, as well as highlighting some old favorites,” said artist Nathan Sawaya. “New England has always welcomed THE ART OF THE BRICK warmly and we are thrilled to be returning after almost a decade.
THE ART OF THE BRICK is the first major exhibition to use LEGO bricks as the sole art medium. Sawaya transforms LEGO bricks into tremendous and thought-provoking sculptures, elevating the toy to the realm of art. Sawaya’s ability to transform this common toy into something meaningful, his devotion to spatial perfection and the way he conceptualizes action, enables him to elevate what almost every child has played with into the status of contemporary art.
Seen by more than 10 million people world-wide, THE ART OF THE BRICK has inspired creativity and wonder in fans of all ages in over 100 cities in 24 countries across 6 continents. CNN rated THE ART OF THE BRICK as one of the global “top ten must-see exhibitions,” PBS NewsHour hailed the artist, “Nathan Sawaya the Leonardo Da Vinci of LEGO Art,” and The New York Times proclaimed “...the playfulness is contagious.”"
