The weather here in New England these past couple of weeks has been crazy. Just last week we had a 4-day stretch of 72-76 degree weather. This is crazy for this time of year here. Usually in November we are already seeing snow, or at least bundling up as the temps have dropped in the low 30-40's. While I am not complaining of this nicer than normal weather (as I get to shut my heat off and save on oil), it makes me wonder what the winter months will bring. I am crossing my fingers we are not going to be hit with lots of snow or below freezing temps. For now, I will quick worrying about what hasn't happened yet, and enjoy the upcoming 70's in store for us this weekend. Yes, there will be rain and thunderstorms, but I will still get out with the family and enjoy this warmer than usual weather.
Last week while getting in some last minute leaf peeping up north, we took a hike in the woods and gathered up leaves, flowers, pine needles and other things we found in nature to bring back home and create some nature art with. The girls do a virtual scouts program with other homeschool kids around the U.S., and this month's challenge/assignment was to get out in nature, gather up unique flowers and leaves, and make a piece of art to share with the group. In addition to gathering up nature supplies for this project, I also had the girls get a few more so that they could use it to create their very own nature lantern. A couple months ago I was sent one of the new craft kits from PlayMonster’s brand new Craft-tastic® Nature line. Their goal of this new craft line for kids is to bring the outside indoors.
I was waiting for just the right time for the girls to gather up items found in nature to make their nature lanterns. I knew that with the colder fall/winter months, being able to make and then enjoy their nature lanterns, would put a smile on my girls' faces each and every time they lit up their lantern, knowing that soon enough warmer temperatures would be back and they would be able to see Mother Nature work her magic and bring life back to the woods and backyard, filling it with lush green vegetation and a bounty of blooming flowers to admire.
I ended up picking up another Nature Lantern from PlayMonster, so that each of my girls would have their own lanterns to enjoy. They had a blast pressing the different flowers and leaves they found in nature, and then adding fun nature stickers included in the kit to their lanterns.
Once they were all said and done, they couldn't wait for night to arrive so that they could light up their nature lanterns and watch them glow.
They liked how they were able to bring a little bit of nature indoors, knowing that in time everything outside will be covered in a blanket of snow, and these beautiful leaves and flowers will be gone or buried until spring, when the ground starts to thaw and the snow melts away.
My girls have always loved being outside in nature and making unique art pieces with leaves, rocks, flowers, etc. they found exploring in the backyard or on hikes. I am so glad that PlayMonster came out with this new Craft-tastic® Nature line for kids like them, who love making things with things found in nature.
I will definitely be checking out and picking up some of the other kids available in the Craft-tastic® Nature line from PlayMonster, to surprise my girls with this holiday season, including the Butterfly House and Scavenger Hunt Potions. What better way to welcome in spring than will these two cute nature-based craft kits.
