One of the first games I taught my girls to play was Mah-Jong. It was a game my grandmother taught my brothers and I when she would babysit us, and became an favorite of mine and one I would play with friends and family over the years, especially when everyone gets together at the holidays and we are looking for a fun game to play.
Being an animal loving family, I knew my girls would love helping me review the Animal Mah-Jong version of this classic Chinese game, as it features an assortment of animals -- land, sea, air, feathered and shelled. As soon as my girls saw the back of this game box and saw all the different animal tiles included, they couldn't wait to get the box open and start playing.
We couldn't wait until family game night to play, and I was glad we didn't, as it was so much fun playing Mah-Jong with these playful animal tiles.
Ryuto Miyake's illustrations really do an amazing job at capturing each animal in such a life-like way. We found ourselves stopping to admire the different tiles as we lined them up on our trays, before figuring our our game plan to win the game.
"Rather than the traditional line drawings of bamboo and Chinese characters, it features Ryuto Miyake's stunning animal illustrations—each suit features Asian land, sea, and air animals. Get ready to pong and chow like you never have before!"
We own a few different Mah-Jong games, but I have to say this is by far my favorite version. Pairing our family's love of animals with this classic Chinese tile game, you can't go wrong for a fun family game night, when this game comes down off the shelf. We can spend hours playing this game, and not get bored. And, I know that when friends and family come this Christmas to visit, we will definitely be introducing them to their unique version of Mah-Jong.
I know that once everyone plays a round and sees all these stunning animal tiles, they will fall in love with the game, and want their own copy of the game, so they can play time and time again.

When we aren't playing Animal Mah-Jong, my girls love choosing Endangered Animals Bingo as a game to play during our weekly family game night. Just like with the stunning animal tiles in the Mah-Jong game, the 64 creatures which are threatened and need our help to save, really are a sight to see. Not only is this a fun BINGO version to play, especially for animal lovers, but it is also a great a dialogue starter for families to talk about these endangered animals, and think about ways they can help their populations survive and hopefully eventually thrive so they can get off the endangered animals list.
My oldest has really taken to this game, and has found herself researching the different animals to learn more about them, their habitats and find organizations and animal lovers like herself, who are working tirelessly to help these animals. I love how this BINGO game sparked a fire in her to want to help or find ways get others to take the well-fair of these magnificent animals seriously.
More about this game:
"This family-friendly game is packed with astonishing and beautiful creatures from all over the world. What unites them all? They are under threat. But there's still time! Learn about the okapi, the whale shark and the southern sea otter and be inspired to take action.
This bingo game is filled with fun facts and glorious illustrations that are guaranteed to delight kids and adults alike. Mark each species off on your card as it's called and be the first to shout BINGO! A proportion of proceeds are donated to charities dedicated to saving these animals and their habitats."
My daughter has been schooling us on the different animals whenever we play this game, and I love hearing all the facts and tidbits of information she has found their her own personal research, sparked by the animals that make up this BINGO game.
If you have an animal lover in your life, I highly recommend you check this BINGO version out, and consider gifting it to them this holiday season. Who knows?...maybe, they, too, will want help or learn more about these animals, like my daughter has been doing.
