It is that time of year when I share with my readers so fun new holiday-themed books that would make for great addition to your family's Christmas book advent countdowns. If you have done a book advent countdown, why not start this year. It is easy to do -- all you need to is gather up some family favorite holiday books and add a few new ones to the mix, and then wrap them in festive wrapping number. You can number them, or simply place in a basket or pile up near the tree. Then, each evening grab one book to read and enjoy together as a family, as you count down the days until Santa's arrival. :-) We started doing both a holiday movie and book advent a few years ago, and it was an instant hit with my girls. It made counting down to Christmas that much more fun, and offered up quality time together enjoying a good book or holiday movie.
With December 1st (the start of most advent countdowns) fast approaching, I wanted to put three cute children's books from Candlewick Press on your radar, that would make for great additions to your family's book advent this year. What I love about these three books is that they will be books your family will fall in love with the first time they read it, and two offer up a fun interactive feature that little ones will go crazy -- think sound and felt flaps. :-) And, the third book is a classic holiday story that many families read on Christmas Eve. I really love this version of the timeless "Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Clement C. Moore.

"Listen and sing along as the merry band of musicians go on a sleigh ride, playing their instruments along the way.
Then join in as they all play together in the festive finale! Nicola Slater’s charming illustrations combined with real instrumental music make this sound-button board book an irresistible Christmas gift."

"Five beautifully illustrated spreads show a series of animals that include a walrus, a hare, a reindeer, and a polar bear all hiding behind bright felt flaps.
With a mirror on the final page, this is the perfect book to share with very little ones."

P.J. Lynch brings his rich and atmospheric art to the well-loved holiday poem. Children will pore over every cozy detail in these warm, sweeping watercolor illustrations—from snug mice to stockings hung by the chimney with care to toys in the bundle flung over merry St. Nicholas’s back.
A glowing interpretation of a favorite read-aloud, this is a keepsake volume to cherish and return to year after year."

Even though my girls are too old to really enjoy the sound and felt flaps board books, they did humor and read through the books. I did see them both smile as they enjoyed the interactive features of these books. And, once they were done reading each one, they said little ones would really enjoy them, and they couldn't wait to share them with our local librarian so that she could include in her holiday weekly story times with the little ones.
But, when it came time to read the classic "Twas the Night Before Christmas" book with my girls, they both knew this holiday poem by heart, and didn't need to read from the pages. Instead, they took the time to really enjoy the breathtaking illustrations that make up this version of this timeless holiday story. The illustrations were so life-like and make the story come to life as we flipped through the pages. And, by the time we reached the end, both of my girls were so excited for Christmas and said that they couldn't wait to read this book again on Christmas Eve, before turning in so that Santa could stop by.
What a fun way to get into the holiday spirit, than by sharing fun children's books with your kids. It gives you an excuse to get extra snuggle time with them, and little ones especially love being read to.
