My girls love when we make homemade play dough, as it it seems to last longer than the ones you buy in the containers at the toy store, and it is also softer and more moldable. But, it always seems when the girls and I have plans to make play dough in festive colors for the holidays, life always seems to get in the way and we have to skip making it, or can't make an assortment of colors. Not only are the girls disappointed, but, so am I, as I know how much fun they have making things with the play dough, and it also keeps them busy for hours, without fighting.
And, for the past few Halloweens, we have been making homemade play dough for the girls to enjoy, as well as for them to gift friends, when we drop a plastic filled pumpkin with candy and goodies and tell them they have been "boo'd". Their friends always love the fun colored play dough the girls make, as they rarely make homemade play dough...and, come on, what kid (and adult, for that matter) doesn't like playing, molding and and just squeezing freshly made play dough? I know for me, I find it very relaxing. It also reminds me of my childhood, and I get to slow down for a bit and pull up a chair next to my girls and play with the homemade play dough with them.
The past few weeks have been crazy busy for us, and I wasn't sure if we would have time to make big batches of Halloween colored play dough for the girls and their friends. But, before I could inventory the pantry for salt and other supplies, we got a fun surprise in the mail.... dough from Land of Dough to review. Now this was no ordinary dough -- it was Halloween-themed and had a cute little vampire design on the top of the dough.
"Go batty with this FANG-tastic Vampire Dough. Make fangs, bats, a cape, or coffin, but always, creep it real. Land of Dough is the most eco-friendly dough on the planet. From plant-based colors and compostable glitters to our paper packaging, we strive to minimize the environmental impact of our product."
In addition to the VampLand dough from Land of Dough, they also have a super cute Trick or Treat dough that is yellow, orange and white and resembles candy corn. I am not a huge fan of eating candy corn, but just seeing this dough on the website, makes me want to get my hand on a bag along with this dough to enjoy.
All the dough from Land of Dough is handcrafted in the USA and natural. Each comes with a little wooden scooper that kids can use to mix and combine and then scoop out the dough. The dough is made with all natural ingredients, plant-based colors and compostable glitter. This was our first experience with Land of Dough, and I have to say I was very impressed with the quality of this natural play dough. It was so soft to touch. But, the best part was when the girls used the scoop and mixed it up to see if go from the vampire design to a mixed granite color. That was really relaxing not just for them, but for me to watch the colors mold together and form a new color.
Even though the girls wished the colors would stay separate, they that it was cool to see the dough go from one color to another. And, just the action of the dough mixing the design together, it was like a surprise to see what the final mixed up color would be. After our experience with Land of Dough, I told the girls that this year we would skip making homemade dough and would introduce their friends to Land of Dough. I ended up buying the Trick or Treat dough cup to add to the "You've Been Boo'd" pumpkin buckets, as well as one for my girls, so that when they swap out their candy on Halloween night, they will have this fun candy corn surprise. :-)
