Available on DVD August 10, 2021
The Midnight Society has finally returned in a follow-up to 2019’s re-imagined limited series horror anthology in Nickelodeon’s Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Curse of the Shadows, available now on DVD from Paramount Home Entertainment and Nickelodeon Home Entertainment.
After their leader goes missing, it's up to the other Midnight Society members to break the curse and free the Shadowman's victims, before disappearing into the shadows themselves. Creepy story line, huh? We watched this movie as soon as we got it yesterday, and it was the perfect movie night for us. I loved this chilling 90's anthology, and was so excited to introduce my girls to the ever popular "Are You Afraid of the Dark" re-imagined limited series in 2019. This new release features an all-new group of kids and a new story line, but it is just as creepy and haunted as the 2019 release and the 90's kids' cult classic I grew up with.
We found ourselves on the edge of our seats through this whole DVD, which contained 6 full-length episodes, and has a run time of 4 hours and 21 minutes. Now, I know what you are thinking...how did you sit for 4 hours? Well, thanks to a rainy and gloomy day today, we found ourselves stuck at home, as there were high wind and tornado warnings outside. To pass the time, we thought we would start with the first two episodes. But, as soon as we started to watch this DVD, we didn't want to wait for the weekend to finish it. We took a break for lunch, dinner and a couple of the girls' online classes. But, when we all had free time, we sat and watched an episode. And, it seemed like as the episodes went on, they got even better. Really suspenseful and spooky -- just like you expect from the "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" series.
If you and your kids love "Are You Afraid of the Dark?, then you'll want to pick up this new DVD release to watch together for an upcoming movie night. We loved it, and can't want to watch these 6 full-length episodes again and again, especially as Halloween nears. These are a great way to get into the spirit of Halloween.
