A Must Read for Tween/Teen Girls: "Living the Confidence Code: Real Girls. Real Stories. Real Confidence." -- Available Now! (Review) #confidencecode

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

This is one book I have eagerly been awaiting its release, as I, myself, wanted to read it, before passing it along to my two girls for them to read it, before discussing it together.  Last year during summer break, the girls and read the best-selling "The Confidence Code for Girls," and had some great discussions about the girls in the book, and how they are changing the world and standing up for what they believe in.  After reading that book, my girls created their own dream boards to hang up in their rooms and look at when they wake and when they go to bed at night, to remind that of goals they have set for themselves, and things they want to achieve in life.  My oldest, even though she is reserved and less outspoken than her sister, wrote on her dream board that she would love to be featured in one of these type books, after she is able to achieve something amazing or that shows her true confidence that she exhibits while chasing her passions.  So, seeing how excited the girls got about the last book, I knew they would be even more thrilled to get their hands on this follow up book in the "Confidence Code" series of books...and, boy, were they!  I wanted to read the book first, but they were telling me I had to read it in a day, as they couldn't wait to read the book.  :-)  I ended up buying each of my girls their own copy of this book, so that we each could read it, and mark up pages of stand out girls that they wanted to talk about, when we had our mom/daughter book club meeting with tea and treats.

Even though we finished the book last week, it has been a busy time with school, so we didn't get to truly find time until this past weekend to sit down and talk about the book and the stories that fill the pages of this book that will be another #1 New York Times Bestselling book.  It was so nice outside, that we put a blanket on the lawn and brought our tea party outside.  With books in hands, we chatted the afternoon away, talking about girls and stories that resonated with each of us.  My girls shared girls' journeys and stories that they felt were similar to their passions and goals, and how they found inspiration in reading these personal stories, and were given that additional boost to continue to work towards their goals and dreams.

As we kept talking about the book, I loved hearing the girls talk about how these girls all were authentic and how failure didn't stand in their way.  They really got a lot out of each and every girl's stories, and said they wanted to work on writing their own story.  This book really did fuel their confidence and has them wanting to not just look up to the girls in this book, but also make a mark on the world, that younger generations of girls can read out and admire, as they, too, work to change the world and make it a better place...one confident girl at a time.

If you are looking with a book to share with your tween or teen, I highly recommend "Living the Confidence Code."  My girls and I loved it, and plan too re-read this and the first book over the summer, and research more about the girls featured to see what else they have been up to, and what amazing things they have been able to achieve since the books published.  It sure is going to be a fun summer reading season for sure!

More about this book:

"In their highly anticipated book, Living the Confidence Code, NYT bestselling authors Katty Kay, Claire Shipman and JillEllyn Riley are sharing portraits of decidedly “real” girls, who faced real challenges, real struggles, had real screw-ups, and overcame them. These girls are “work in progress models” and their journeys are relatable and truly inspiring. Shipman and Kay launched the book on February 23rd on TODAY and discussed how young girls need to see the struggle and the failure of their role models to help them learn to build confidence. They also wrote a powerful essay in the New York Times, “Imperfect Girls Make Perfect Role Models.”

Living the Confidence Code is a followup to bestselling phenomenon The Confidence Code For Girls, which spent twenty-eight weeks on the New York Times middle grade bestseller list in 2018.

Living the Confidence Code builds on the skills that The Confidence Code for Girls taught teens and tweens, to take risks, move past self-doubt, and learn from failure. It shares stories of remarkable girls who have done just that, and achieved their goals, from starting NGOs to leading anti-bullying campaigns to pushing for equality in sports, education, and more. The book can help parents and girls learn more about these inspiring role models, and how every girl can become more confident and achieve her goals.

Through confidence-boosting advice and the stories of real-life Girls of Action featured in Living the Confidence Code, authors Katty Kay, Claire Shipman and JillEllyn Riley empower the next generation of young women to make a difference in the world. Readers will come away with the skills and inspiration to live out their own passions and make an impact in their own unique way.

In celebration of the launch of their newest book, Living the Confidence Code (HarperCollins, February 23), Kay and Shipman (@confidencecodegirls) have kicked off a campaign with Instagram (@Instagram) challenging girls and women to share their personal #ConfidenceCode by creating Reels that document "A Day In Your Confident Life."

Because confidence has to be built, even stockpiled, and everyone might do it a little differently. This campaign asks girls and women to show their confident journey: how do you buoy your confidence during the day? By belting out your favorite song, taking a few deep breaths before diving into that difficult task, or sprinting around the block? Or holding onto a favorite object to help stay calm, like an inspiring post-it note or lucky crystal? Whatever it is – the #confidencecode community wants to see it. Share on Instagram reels today.
