(Also available in Digital format)
Thanks to streaming channels, my girls and husband have gotten in Japanese Anime and Chinese animated fantasy/adventures series and movies. If it wasn't for streaming services, I don't think they would have ever stumbled upon these genres. But, thanks to them, now my girls and husband have a new ritual every night before bed, and every weekend when they get up...they snuggle up on the couch together under a cozy blanket and watch some of these shows and movies, and then talk all about them, sharing their favorite parts and characters, and hopes for upcoming episode outcomes.
Thanks to the folks at Well Go USA Entertainment, I was able to introduce my girls and husband to NE ZHA, which is the "first animated film selected as the Chinese entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards." I was surprised when I shared the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, which arrives today in stores, along with a 4K Ultra Blu-Ray Combo (Digital release was back on Feb. 25th), that they weren't aware of this animated feature film.
But, as soon as I handed it over, they were quick to put on this 111 minute animated movie to watch. And, from the moment the movie started, right up until the credits started to roll, their eyes were glued to the television.
I could hear them making noise throughout the film, when cool and exciting parts were happening, and by the end, they were all smiles and chatting a mile a minute about the movie and what they loved most about.
More about NE ZHA:
"One of the biggest successes in the history of animation and Chinese cinema, the internationally-acclaimed animated fantasy-adventure NE ZHA weaves it magic on digital February 25 and on DVD, Blu-ray Combo and 4K Ultra Blu-ray Combo March 3 from Well Go USA Entertainment. First-time feature film director Jiaozi brings to the screen the enchanting story of a boy with unique powers who is recruited to fight demons and save the community that initially fears him. NE ZHA is the first animated film selected as the Chinese entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.
Synopsis:
A young boy, Nezha, is birthed from a heavenly pearl by the Primeval Lord of Heaven. Born with unique powers, Nezha finds himself as an outcast who is hated and feared.
Destined by prophecy to bring destruction to the world, the young boy must choose between good and evil in order to break the shackles of fate and become the hero.

Country of Origin: China
NE ZHA has a runtime of approximately 111 minutes and is not rated."

I tried to get them to each slow down and share why they loved this movie so much, but, all I kept hearing was "WOW!, that was so cool" or "It was simply amazing!" They shared the synopsis of the movie, which was about a boy who was born with unique powers and used them to fight demons, in hopes of saving his community, who feared him. Without his help and powers, the word would be destroyed. The movie is about good and evil, and how this little boy rises up from being an outcast to becoming a hero and saving the world. While there is no rating for this movie, I would recommend this to be for older children and adults as it has demons and visuals that will probably spook younger audiences.
My husband and girls have watched this movie a few times since I gave to them to help me review, and they are waiting for this weekend to watch it again. They continue to talk about it, and all agree that if you enjoy animated fantasy and Chinese animated series and shows that you will definitely love NE ZHA. They all give this fantasy-adventure animated film two thumbs up, and I know once you watch it, you will, too!
