Congratulations! Soon you'll have your own wonderful bundle of joy that will bring many happy memories. Whether you’ve used the services of the Advanced Fertility Center or another clinic, conceived naturally, using a surrogacy or adopting a newborn, there are certain things that you should keep in mind from the moment that you bring your little one home.
Many people feel prepared for pregnancy, as scary as the process might seem. But there are considerations that you should have at the forefront of your mind ahead of the big day – just remember, however, that no one is perfect. All new moms will go through stages in which they feel as though they are on a rollercoaster.
It’s just important that you aren’t too hard on yourself. It’s a learning curve at the end of the day that no one gets right – as much as celebrities or other people might lead you to think that.
Need some inspiration? Here are 5 essential tips that every new mom can use. Of course, what you choose to do is up to you. It’s just vital to remember that you should do what’s right for you, your family and your baby and to recognize that everyone is different.
Try to Eat Healthy
After bringing home your new baby, chances are your emotions will be erratic. And although it’s tempting to eat whatever you want after the birth, it’s better to eat nutritious and healthy food– such as salmon and other superfoods high in iron and fiber. Not only will you feel a lot better in yourself, but you’ll have more energy which will be used to look after the little one.
It’s vital that you also don’t forget to eat. Although your new baby is taking up a lot of your time, you need to look after yourself too.
Exercise and Look after Yourself
Following on from the above, it’s important that you also do some exercise, shower, keep hydrated, etc. Helping you to feel like yourself again, you’ll feel more motivated at the start of every day. If you’re at home alone with the baby, however, remember to keep them in sight nearby.
Create A Routine
As aforementioned, it might feel like a rollercoaster rather than a simple process. Which is why it’s so important to create a routine and stick to it. Pay attention to your baby’s cries and cues and start to build a routine around them. This will help you to know what to expect every day - just keep in mind that this routine is likely to change throughout the process!
From spending some time with your baby to setting sleeping times, you’ll find the process a lot easier by sticking to a routine.
Ask For Help When You Need It
As a new mom, you might want to take on all of the responsibility yourself. But this simply isn’t healthy. Although you will probably be the primary caregiver, with your partner by your side, you need to ask for help from family or friends when you need it.
This doesn’t even have to strictly be with childcare, it could also be with helping around the house by cleaning dishes, for example. This will give you some time to relax, sleep, shower and get back to yourself. They know how hard the process can be, so take them up on any help they offer when you truly need it.
As well as help from your loved ones, it’s also a good idea to reach out for professional help when you need it. From lactation to postpartum concerns, there’s no concern that’s too small.
Give Your Partner Responsibilities
Following on from the above, it’s essential that you let your partner take over every once in a while. Encourage him to be in charge of various things – from bathing to reading. Bonding activities that he can enjoy with the baby, you’ll be able to take a well-deserved breather whilst your partner looks after them.
