Just like when I was little, I let my girls pick out their own chocolate advent calendar to count down to Dec. 25, but they also get to choose one toy or activity calendar, too. Usually they go for building sets or character surprises, as they are more fun than the plain old stickers or puzzle ones (their words, not mine). My oldest daughter is still trying to figure out which toy advent she wants to get, while my youngest is all set with her Super Mario Advent Calendar from JAKKS Pacific, which we were recently sent to review.
Usually I have my girls help me review a product for my write ups, but seeing that this is a countdown calendar which begins on Dec. 1st, I had my daughter give me her opinion on the advent calendar base on the packaging, what she sees on the back and photos I found through online, as this advent calendar is an Amazon exclusive, of some of the 17 figures and 7 accessories included with the calendar. So, here goes...
Bella's Thoughts:
She liked how the calendar box/packaging doubles as a scene for you to play with the figures and accessories that you will get with each door opened. As you can see in the picture below, there are pop ups to the board which include the flowers, pipe and tree. Bella loved this feature and said it would make for playing with her Super Mario pieces that much more fun.
Bella didn't see all the figures and accessories that come with the calendar as I wanted them to be a surprise for her, and give her something to look forward to. But, of the ones she saw, she said they look well made, and are of all the major characters you associate with Super Mario. She was afraid at first that this would be a boring calendar and just have small little figures or boring accessories, but when she saw that you get the Princess Peach, Luigi and Venus fly trap flower pot, etc., all of which are 2.5 inches, she was happy with the assortment, and can't wait until Dec. 1st gets here so that she can start opening the doors.
Bella really likes how this Super Mario advent calendar is set up and how sturdy the box is. Other calendars we have had have been flimsy or don't stand up for playing with. But, this is not the case with this fun advent calendar from JAKKS Pacific. Right now I am seeing the Super Mario Advent calendar listed on Amazon for $46.90, down from $49.99. while this may seem like a lot of money for an advent calendar, you have to remember that this contains 24 pieces in total -- 17 2.5 inch figures and 7 accessories. And, all the figures and accessories are well main, and would usually run you $4-$5 each if you bought them individually in blind bag surprise packages. So, if you do the math at $4 each x 24 pieces, that would cost you $96 without tax. So, you really are getting this well made JAKKS Pacific Super Mario advent calendar as a steal with the $46.90 pricing. And, if you go to Amazon (without the kids around), other customers have uploaded photos of all the surprises, and you will see these are really nice quality toys that your kids will play with long after the countdown to Christmas is done. And, if they are collectors of these figures/toys, they will love displaying them on their dressers or in their rooms to admire.
While advent calendars are usually a thing for kids, I can see the Super Mario advent calendar from JAKKS Pacific being a great gift ideas for fans of this iconic video game. You could gift it to them as their gift under the tree, or give to them early so they can enjoy counting down to Christmas starting on Dec. 1st. After seeing this advent calendar and how well it is made and the toys you will unveil each day in December, I may just have to get one for myself. This looks like so much fun, and I love displaying iconic characters like Mario and Luigi on my desk and bookcase in my office.
To learn more about this super fun, must have advent calendar for 2019, head on over to https://www.jakks.com/. And, if you want to buy it right now, head on over to Amazon to place your order. But, don't delay as toy advent calendars usually sell out fast, and we are getting close to Dec. 1st when the fun of these advent calendars begins.
