Back in August, the state of CT started to ban plastic bags.  If you happened to go shopping and didn't have a reusable bag or tote to carry out your goods, you were charged 10 centers per bag used.  You still had the option to go with brown paper bags, but those too, would be phasing out in September.  While we were all provided advance notice of these changes in the summer, when stores posted signs about it, and news pieces ran on television, but it really didn't hit people until they went to the stores in August and found themselves being charged per bag.  I found myself a few times running into a store forgetting my bags, and trying to juggle milk and all my other groceries out to the car.  Just the idea of having to pay for bags made you want to show off your skills of juggling, to get your purchased goods to the car.  But, that became old real quick, and many CT residents found themselves paying the 10 cents per bag.  Yes, it was an inconvenience and would add up with each store visit, but we have all been used to walking out of a store with our purchases in a plastic bag.  The real shock came, though, when stores did away totally with the plastic bag buying option in October.  Yes, you could still buy paper bags for 5 cents each, but it is harder to carry out all those paper bags.  So, CT residents had to buy reusable totes if they hadn't already, to make shopping and carrying out their goods so much easier.  In the long run, eliminating plastic bags is a must for our environment, but change is hard for all of us, especially when you are so accustomed to things, and then have to make changes.
