It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. I know you don't want to hear this but Christmas will arrive in 58 days, and after Halloween is over with the end of the week, many television and radio channels will begin playing holiday movies and music. We ended up putting our tree up last weekend, as the girls got excited for the holidays after walking through the stores and seeing the Christmas trees up, as well as the aisles and aisles of ornaments, holiday wrapping paper, etc. Usually we put up the tree for my daughter's birthday on November 10th, but with all the rain we have been having, it made for a great rainy day activity, and have made the evenings more enjoyable, as we shut off all the lights and just stare at the twinkling lights on the Christmas tree. There is something about a decorated Christmas tree that makes you smile and feel relaxed. And, now that our tree is up, I feel that when the craziness of the holiday season starts to kick in, we have one less thing to worry about as the tree is already up and being enjoyed.
One thing we can't rush, however, are some of our holiday traditions, including advent calendars, book and movie advents, and family-friendly shows we take in each year. One show in particular that stands out is The Nutcracker. We have been bringing our girls to the opening night of The Nutcracker at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts for the past 4 years, and this year is no exception. Thanks to the kind folks at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts, we will be attending the opening night 7 PM show on November 29th -- and, if you read on, you will have a chance to enter my giveaway for a chance to win a family 4-pack of tickets to join us for the November 29th, 7 PM show, too! :-)
Here is more about the amazing and oh so memorable The Nutcracker show that is always a hit with families in New England during the holidays -- Note: Tickets are now on sale for this holiday show, as well as a special Cookies and Tea with Clara event that is always a hit with the kids. We took our girls to this last year and they loved it!

The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky first performed in Russia in December 1892 and based on the stories of E.T.A. Hoffmann and Alexandre Dumas. The story revolves around Clara, a young girl who receives a nutcracker doll as a Christmas gift and then enters a magical world where the Nutcracker and other characters come to life.
