About this SteelBook release:
"After co-creating the iconic movie monsters Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra for Toho Studios, special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya launched his own company, Tsuburaya Productions. The first production under his new label was ULTRA Q, a 28-episode series that brought the theatrical spectacle Tsuburaya had become known for to television. The black & white sci-fi drama focused on Mainichi Shimpo photojournalist Yuriko Edogawa (Hiroko Sakurai, Ultraman), Hoshikawa Airlines pilot/SF writer Jun Manjome (Kenji Sahara) and his co-pilot Ippei Togawa (Yasuhiko Saijo), who partnered to investigate mysterious events occurring in and around Japan. These phenomena often involved aliens and giant monsters, many of whom would return in future Ultraman shows and movies.
One of the most expensive TV programs produced in Japan up to that time, ULTRA Q was a ratings smash that paved the way for Tsuburaya Productions' first color series... ULTRAMAN!"

More about this new SteelBook release:
"ULTRAMAN, a giant alien from the Land of Light in Nebula M78, enters Earth's atmosphere in pursuit of an escaped space monster. In the skies above Japan he accidentally crashes into a Jet VTOL piloted by Hayata, a member of the Science Special Search Party (SSSP), an international research and defense agency that protects the world from monsters and aliens of all shapes and sizes. To save Hayata, Ultraman merges his life force with the dying human and vows to stay and fight for peace on Earth. Now, whenever the Patrol faces a threat too great for them to handle, Hayata transforms into Ultraman to save the day!
ULTRAMAN was Tsuburaya Productions' first color series, a sci-fi action adventure drama that dominated the ratings during its initial 1966-67 broadcast run in Japan. The show was quickly licensed for release in America, airing in syndication for nearly two decades. Colorful, fast-paced, and packed with memorable heroes, creatures and incredible special effects, ULTRAMAN was the foundation for a phenomena that continues to this day."

ULTRAMAN was huge back in 1966-67 when it aired in Japan. And, when it arrived in the states, it took off, and became a hit with sci-fan adventure drama fans of all ages. I remember my older brother watching dubbed VHS tapes of ULTRA Q and ULTRAMAN growing up, and the ULTRAMAN series turned me onto sci-fi shows from that point on. Over the years I have found myself getting into new sci-fi adventures series, but nothing has ever compared to ULTRAMAN. So, when I heard that the folks at Mill Creek Entertainment had plans to release both ULTRA Q and ULTRAMAN to Blu-ray and Digital, I couldn't have been more excited. I shared the news with my family and friends who were also fans of this cult Japanese sci series, and we have been eagerly awaiting its October arrival, so that we could relive some of our favorite moments from this popular Japanese series.
I would have been happy with the digital copies of these ULTRAMAN releases, but was over the moon excited when the kind folks at Mill Creek Entertainment sent along these these two new releases in the SteelBook collectible packaging. I thought that this highly collectible packaging was so cool, and really added a nice touch to the this fully remastered and restored Japanese broadcast series. Both SteelBook cases also included a 28-page collectible booklet that fans of the series will love reading through and learning all about ULTRAMAN. And, if that wasn't enough, you also get a digital redemption code that you can redeem through Mill Creek Entertainment's new movieSPREE! streaming site.
My husband had never seen ULTRAMAN, so I have been introducing him to this popular Japanese sci-fi adventure series for the past couple of weeks, and he is loving it. He can't believe that he had never heard of it, let alone saw an episode on television over the years. But, like me, he is so glad to have ULTRA Q and ULTRAMAN to watch on Blu-ray, whenever he wants. The ULTRA Q Blu-ray release has 4 discs and contains 11 hrs. 56 minutes of content, while the ULTRAMAN Blu-ray release has 6 discs and 16 hrs. and 28 minutes of content. We are only halfway through the ULTRA Q set, and my husband can't get enough of it. We wait until the girls go to bed to watch it, and then binge watch a few of the episodes that make up the 28-episode black and white series. I can't wait until we get to the ULTRAMAN set as I know he will love this color series even more.
If you were/are a fan of ULTRA Q and/or ULTRAMAN and want to watch these series from the beginning, then you will definitely want to check out these new Blu-ray and Digital releases from Mill Creek Entertainment. And, if you know someone who is a big fan of the two series, why not consider picking them up the two steelbook Blu-ray sets as a gift this holiday season. I know what I will be getting my brother, and can't wait to see the look on his face when he opens the collectible steelbook sets come Christmas morning.
