The Animated Classic Aladdin Joins the Walt Disney Signature Collection on Blu-ray
If you follow my blog, then you know that my family loves watching movies together. We usually have a pizza and movie night every Friday night, and then another movie night with crafts and themed snacks one night over the weekend. I am always looking for fun new and favorite movies to offer up as options for the girls to choose from for our movie nights. Instead of waiting until Friday to watch a movie, I ended up throwing everyone in the house for a loop when I moved movie night to Tuesday. I had pizza delivered and some fun crafts ready for the girls to do, to go along with our Aladdin double feature. I was so excited when I received the new Aladdin movie featuring Will Smith, which arrived on Blu-ray/DVD/Digital on Tuesday, as well as the classic Disney Aladdin movie featuring the voice of Robin Williams for the Genie. I would wait until Friday to see these two movies, and I knew once my girls saw the DVDs, they wouldn't be able to wait either. We started with the new Disney Aladdin movie, as we missed it when it was in theaters, and have been eagerly awaiting its arrival to DVD and Blu-ray. I am so glad the wait is over, as this movie was so good. I had a lot of friends and their kids have mixed reviews on this movie. Some said it was too much singing, while others prefer the classic animated version. I am usually an animated Disney movie lover all the way, but recent Disney live-action releases have changed this, as they are really entertaining and offer the classic tales a new look and feel, which I am loving.
My girls agreed with my that the live-action was really good. They didn't mind all the singing, and liked Will Smith as the genie. Growing up watching Will Smith as the Fresh Prince of Bell Air, it was hard to see him as the genie. But, he pulled it over, and made the movie really entertaining. Once we were done watching the movie, which is approximately 128 minutes in length, we checked out all the bonus content which included deleted scenes, laugh out loud bloopers, behind the scenes look at the the Magic of Aladdin, a deleted song "Desert Moon", and so much more. When we were done, we put on the beloved animated movie to see how it compared to this new live-action masterpiece. It has been awhile since we watched the animated version, and it ended up making for a nice treat.
It was hard for my girls to decide which of the two Aladdin movies they loved better, as they were both so good, and in their eyes "classics." They did say the songs on the animated movie were better in how they were sequenced with the movie scenes. But, other than that, both Aladdin releases were great. As soon as we were done with the animated movie, my girls were both asking when we could watch the again, as they couldn't get enough of Aladdin. We plan to have another movie night tomorrow on our usual night, and will be watching these two Aladdin movies again. I don't know who is more excited for tomorrow to get here to watch the movies, the girls or I. :-)
In the meantime, the girls have been enjoying the fun crafts they did Tuesday night and then made more of yesterday, to give to their friends. If you love adding fun crafts and activities to your family movie night, and plan to watch Aladdin (either the new live animated version or the classic animated version...or both), then you have to check out these super cute and super easy crafts to do with your kids...
