This colorful picture book is both humorous and heartfelt, and will resonate with kids and parents, as you sit to read this story together. The story is simple, a little tiger is scared of almost everything. His fears prevent him from having fun and making new friends. But, once day, his parents push him to explore and try new things, reassuring him that it will be OK. The tiger takes this gentle reassurance and seems to turn into a brave little tiger, seeing the world in a new way, and not afraid anymore.
My girls really enjoyed this book, which I read to them the other night at bedtime. Even though they are older, they still picked up on the message about it being OK to be afraid, but not to let your fears get in the way of you experiencing life, and trying new things. I highly recommend this book to families of little ones who are nervous and scared about the school year ahead. It is a quick read, and they will love the fun and playful illustrations done by Jean Claude. Once you are done reading the sweet story, you can talk with your kids and reassure them, just like the little tiger's parents did, about their fears and ways to cope with their fears.
About this book:
"In Be Brave, Little Tiger!, a richly illustrated picture book written by the inimitable Margaret Wise Brown, a little tiger is frightened of absolutely everything in his jungle home. He's afraid of the monkeys, the birds, the wind, the water, everything. It takes steady and gentle reassurance from his parents for the little tiger to view his world - and himself - in a new way. This gently humorous story about coping with fear, with sweet, colorful illustrations by Jean Claude, is sure to resonate with every young child."
