Disclosure:  I was sent a screener from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

The spectacular, 1990s-era Super Hero adventure, which electrified and inspired audiences worldwide and surpassed $1 billion in ticket sales, is available on Digital in HD and 4K Ultra HD™ and Movies Anywhere May 28, and lands on Blu-ray™ and Blu-ray 4K Ultra HD™ June 11.

It's been a long time coming to Marvel Studios to put out a movie which is female-led.  With all the other Marvel movies filled with testosterone and men taking the leading roles, it was only a matter of time for the women to step up and show they can deliver a great movie...case in point..Captain Marvel pulled in  $1 billion in ticket sales, and inspired women of all ages (young and old), with this spectacular 1990's-era Super Hero adventure.

I was so excited when I first saw the trailer to Captain Marvel, as my girls have been asking since they saw the previous two Marvel Studios releases, why there weren't any lead women characters, as they saw all the male characters taking center stage. But, once they saw the trailer for this movie, they were all smiles and couldn't wait to see it.  Being homeschooled gave us an advantage at the movie theaters after the initial release of Captain Marvel, as kids were in school, and parents were at work, so it was just us and other homeschoolers and some retired Marvel fans in the theater when we went the first time.  Yes, the first time, as we ended up seeing this movie a second time with my husband, and then for a third time with a few of my girl's girlfriends.  Each and every time we saw the movie, it was exhilarating and has us walking out of the theater with smiles on our faces, as we knew we had just watched a stellar movie, not just female-led, but with a cat, too!  The cat in the movie really does have some mad skills as my oldest daughter says.  She is a cat lover, and was more excited about the cat scenes than anything else. :-)

We have been waiting for Captain Marvel to arrive on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital, not just because we wanted to watch it for the fourth time, and then some, but also because we had heard through online forums and the press release I was sent back in April that the upcoming release is jam-packed with bonus material not to be missed.  Yesterday, we received an advance copy of the Blu-Ray w/ Digital Code, thanks to the kind folks at Walt Disney Studios.  I wish you could have heard the shriek my youngest let out when she opened the mailer and took out the movie. She was quick to say that we didn't have to decide on a movie for movie night as we would all be in agreeing that we wanted to watch this.  Usually we have movie nights on Friday nights, and then either Saturday or Sunday night.  But, after receiving Captain Marvel in the mail and seeing all the cool bonus content, we couldn't wait until Friday to watch the movie, followed by checking out each and every piece of bonus content included.  So, last night after dinner, we settled in to watch this movie for the fourth time.  It was just as amazing as the last three times we saw it in the theaters.  Don't worry I am not going to give an in-depth review of the film, as you have probably already seen it too with your family, or don't want any spoilers.  What I will say is that this really is a must own movie from the Marvel Studios franchise.  The bonus content alone will make you want to pick up the Blu-Ray _ Digital Code, multi-screen edition.  Included in the bonus content is the "Origin of Nick Fury," a gag real that will have you tearing up because you are laughing so hard, as well as deleted scenes, and so much more!  Read on to learn all about this upcoming release to Blu and DVD on June 11th.  But, if you can't wait, you can pick the movie up now on Digital to watch. :-)

Synopsis:

Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that introduces the MCU’s first stand-alone, female-franchise title character—Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. When we first meet Danvers, she already possesses her superhero powers, having left her earthly life behind and become a member of an intergalactic elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by their enigmatic commander, Yon-Rogg. But after Danvers has trained and worked with the Starforce team, and become a valued member, she finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. While on Earth she quickly lands on the radar of Nick Fury, and they must work together against a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls—the notorious Marvel bad guys made even more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities—and their leader, Talos, who is spearheading a Skrull invasion of Earth.

Based on the beloved Marvel comic-book series, first published in 1967, “Captain Marvel” stars Academy Award® winner Brie Larson (“Room,” “Kong: Skull Island”) as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel,  Samuel L. Jackson  (Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “The Hateful Eight”) as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Mississippi Grind”) as Talos, with Annette Bening (“American Beauty,” “20th Century Women”) as Supreme Intelligence, with Clark Gregg (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) as Agent Coulson and Jude Law (“Sherlock Holmes,” “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”) as Yon-Rogg.

The film also includes a talented supporting cast that features Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”) as Korath, Lee Pace (“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”) as Ronan, Lashana Lynch (“Bulletproof,” “Brotherhood”) as Maria Rambeau, Gemma Chan (“Crazy Rich Asians,” “Humans”) as Minn-Erva, Rune Temte (“Eddie the Eagle,” “The Last Kingdom”) as Bron-Char, Algenis Perez Soto (“Sugar,” “Isolated Victim”) as Att-Lass, Mckenna Grace (“Gifted,” “I, Tonya”) as Young Carol Danvers and Akira Akbar (“Grey’s Anatomy”) as Monica Rambeau.

Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck (“Half Nelson,” “Sugar,” “Mississippi Grind”). Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Patricia Whitcher and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman & Meg LeFauve and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck & Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and the screenplay is by Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck & Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

Directors Boden and Fleck’s creative team also includes director of photography Ben Davis (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange”), production designer Andy Nicholson (“Gravity,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”), costume designer Sanja Hays (“The Fate of the Furious,” “Star Trek Beyond”), editors Elliot Graham (“Steve Jobs,” “Molly’s Game”) and Debbie Berman (Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther,” “Spider-Man: Homecoming”), visual effects supervisor Christopher Townsend (MarvelStudios’ “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”), special effects supervisor Dan Sudick (Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Black Panther”) and composer Pinar Toprak (“The Angel,” “The Challenger”)."
