The Song of Spring by Hendrik Jonas - A Cute New Picture Book for Little Ones about Friendship and Finding One's Voice (Review)

In this charming book, children will delight in the sounds animals make as they come together to help a young bird find a friend.

I am wrapping up my "Welcome in Spring with a Good Book series" this week, and wanted to share one of my favorite new releases, that is perfect for this time of year -- "The Song of Spring".  This cute picture book is about a little bird who has forgotten what sound he should make to welcome in spring and converse with the other birds.  While looking for right sound to make, he meets other animals and learns their sounds.  But, listening to these sounds, the little bird is still sad as he really wants a bird friend.  It isn't until the end of the book that the bird hears a beautiful sound and meets a new friend, a little girl bird who has come from far away and has also been looking for a bird friend.  Together, with the animals the little bird met along the way, he celebrates the arrival of this new bird, and all the friends he has made.

This truly is a fun and heartwarming read, that young children will enjoy sitting to listen to.  Not only will they get to make the different animal sounds they learn from the book, but they will learn about friendship, and how they can find their own voice, just like the little bird in this book did.  My girls really enjoyed this book, and have asked for it at bedtime, and I love when they do, as I really enjoy the book, especially the playful illustrations, which make this book come to life. :-)

If you are looking for a fun spring-themed book to share with little ones, then you will want to check out "The Song of Spring" by Hendrik Jones.  This is one book you will love reading time and again.

About this book:

"It’s spring and everywhere birds are calling out to each other. But one bird has forgotten which sound to make.

He tries “Woof,” and meets a dog, who encourages him to try “Oink,” with the expected result. Moo, Hee-Haw, Baa, Meow–each successive call adds another animal friend to the page. Will the young bird find another bird friend?

As young readers are introduced to each type of animal and their sounds, Hendrik Jonas’s clever illustrations grow increasingly crowded.

The result is a beautiful celebration of friendship that will delight young children everywhere."
