This is one movie I really wanted to see in theaters, as I heard from so many friends and family that it was really good. Many even said that the whole movie theater audience was laughing out loud -- it was that funny! But, my girls ended up getting sick, and by the time they were both better, the movie was no longer in theaters. So, I made a point a point to add this title to my calendar and be on the lookout for the Blu-ray/DVD release, so that I could finally watch. I found out a couple months ago the movie would be releasing on digital on May 14, and Blu-Ray/DVD on May 21st. Like my girls do when they are excited about something, I added the movie's DVD release to my calendar and started to count down the days. :-) But, I didn't have to wait until May 21st, as the kind folks at Universal Home Entertainment sent me an advance copy of the movie to watch with my family, and we watched it this past Friday, as our family movie night flick. What a great way to end the week -- with such a wonderful movie, which was based on a true story. And, this movie is a comedy, so expect laughs, and lots of them.
What I loved about this movie, next to it having two of my favorite actors, Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston, is that this movie was an inspirational movie, that will pull at your heartstrings one minute, and then have you laughing to the point you are tearing up the next. This movie is about a discouraged and down on his luck out-of-work ex-con and a wealthy quadriplegic. Together they forge an unlikely friendship, while also pulling each other of their funks, and having them happy about life again.
In addition to such a great movie, which will have you glued to the television screen from start to finish, and have you walking away feeling inspired and appreciating life and the genuine friendships you have, the bonus content is also great, and a must check out once you are done watching the movie with your family. Some of the bonus content includes a gag reel, which was favorite and had me snorting, as I was laughing so hard, along with deleted scenes, on-screen commentary with Keven and Bryan, as well as other discussions by the actors and director.
If you are looking for a great family-friendly movie to watch this upcoming holiday weekend, why not consider picking up The Upside, when it arrives in stores tomorrow on Blu-Ray and DVD. Or, buy it now on Digital. Then, get ready for laughs and a great time with family, as you watch this inspirational comedy, based on a true story. It will move you, and have you laughing uncontrollably, and wanting to see it time and again. We can't wait to watch this movie again, and haven't stopped talking about it since we watched it on Friday.
