I can't believe I was able to keep a secret from my girls. For the past couple weeks I have been waiting for a good time to surprise them, and let them know we would be heading back to Boston for the day. A couple weeks ago we took in the American Girl Live musical, followed by a trip to the American Girl store right outside of Boston, as they are closing the end of March, and my girls had never been. So, Nana and Papa met us there, and surprised then with a trip to the store, and lunch after. So, when I told them we were heading back to Boston tomorrow, they wondered what we were going into the city for. Then, I shared my secret...we were taking in the Blue Man Group show at the Charles Playhouse in Boston.
A couple weeks ago, the girls asked if we could go to the show as a bunch of their homeschool friends were planning to go during the February vacation with their families. But, I knew then that I would be covering the show for my blog, so I had to find excuses of why we couldn't go, as I didn't want to tell them then that we were going. They were all disappointed when I said we couldn't go. And, then when they met up with their friends after the show and heard about how awesome it was, it only made them more sad that they missed it. My youngest told me the other day she wanted to save her allowance money to buy tickets to see the show. I told her that was a good idea, and would make for a great family trip into the city, once her and her sister saved some money.
This evening at dinner, my youngest was given her weekly allowance and added to her "Blue Man Group" jar she set up. She counted her money and then asked how much tickets go for. After I told her, she looked a little sad, as she knew she had a long way to go to cover four tickets. This was when I shared the news with the girls. I wish I had the camera on them when I told them, as they both gave out a big shriek, before they leaped off their chairs and jumped around the dining room. They didn't believe me at first. But, then I showed them the email, and that made their eyes twinkle even more. Not only were they heading back to Boston, which they love to visit, but they were also going to see the Blue Man Group show, for the first time. My husband and I saw the show over 20 years ago, so it will be fun to see it again, this time with our girls. And, seeing how excited their friends were, telling them about the show, I know this will be my girls, after the curtain goes down tomorrow.
I don't know where we will be sitting for the show, but hoping it will be up near the front, so that they can experience the paint, etc. that shoots off the stage, into the audience. It is funny...I knew the girls would get excited when they heard the secret that I have been keeping, but I, too, am finding myself excited like them, as I know it will be a day of firsts for them, and another great memory we will make as a family.
