What has been the big ticket items your kids are asking Santa for this Christmas? It seems that as the years go by and more and more tech gadgets and electronics are made available, kids' wish lists become more and more expensive. Where did the days go when children asked for dolls and maybe a new bike for Christmas. Now, they want video games, gaming system and their own phones. Well, how can we blame them? We are now living in an age where are lives revolve around our gadgets, and it is hard for us to put down our phones even for a minute. Who here still makes phone calls on a daily basis, or even has a land line phone for that matter? I know many people opt for texting over talking to someone over the phone. And, thanks to Caller ID we can screen our calls and decide who we want to talk to, or let it go to voicemail. So, to hear our kids asking Santa for a phone of their own should not come as a surprise.
My two girls had phones on the top of their wish lists to Santa. They have been using old phones from my husband and I, but they have found themselves running out of storage space to play their Minecraft and Animal Jam games. And, because the phones are a few years old, they are much slower and occasional crash...which is the worst! :-) So, to not have to deal with limited storage and a battery that drains quickly, my two girls wrote to Santa and asked for their own phones with all the bells and whistles. And, just the other day when we went to the store, I heard other children talking to Santa and putting in their requests for phones, too. I guess the elves will be busy this year making and packaging up phones for kids of all ages, so that Santa can leave under the tree for them for Christmas morning.
After discussing phones as gifts for our girls with my husband, we decided based on their outside homeschool classes, extra curricular activities and the world we live in today, compared to when we were young and could just call collect and tell our parents we were on our way home, that the girls needed a phone. While they only thought the phone would be good for their gaming and chatting with friends and family, we saw the other benefits, like being able to call us in case of an emergency, lock down situation (hopefully this will never happen), etc., that they would have a phone handy, as many places are opting for mobile phones over landlines. I know in our house we got rid of our landline phone right after moving in back in 2007. There really wasn't a need for it as my husband and I both worked all day and had our cell phones on us in case someone had to reach out. And, then when the girls came, I would always have my phone on silent as not to wake the when they were napping, and a landline at that time would have been turned off, too.
But, which cell phone is best for kids? There are so many out there, and they come with different plans. It is hard trying to compare and choose the best one. I found myself getting a headache trying to have multiple tabs open on my computer to price compare, check specs and kid-safety features, etc. with all the different mobile carriers out there. My main concern was that the girls use up too much data and texting with a paid plan and we might find ourselves shelling out unexpected overage costs each month. To prevent this, we both decided it was best to go with a pre-paid plan that would allow us to bring an unlocked phone of our choice with us. I found that even with pre-paid plans if you buy a phone for certain carriers, the phone price outweighs the savings you get with the monthly paid plan.
After researching for over a month, I found myself going back to the MintMobile.com. I liked their plans and pricing, as it was within our budget, and they allowed you to bring your own phones. Before I found myself going crazy trying to narrow down phone choices, I received an email from the folks at NUU Mobile about their recent G1 smartphone launch. It was like Santa was helping to ease the stress of all this holiday shopping (and research). After reading about this smartphone -- it had everything the girls were asking for -- and was in our budget, I reached out to see if I could have a sample sent for review. I was happy when they responded not only with an offer to send me a sample to review, but that they wanted to give one of my readers a chance to win a NUU Mobile G1 smartphone (a $99 value). How cool is that!? Read on to learn how you can enter for a chance to win this new smartphone to gift to your child, or keep for yourself. :-)
The other day, I received the NUU Mobile G1 smartphone to try out, and I wish you could have seen my daughters' faces.

We have spent the past few days playing with the phones and checking out all the pre-loaded applications that are pre-installed on this new Android Go operating system. My girls, however, were all about how many of their apps and games they could add to the phone without taking up all the memory, and seeing how long the battery life lasted.
So, had did this phone compare to their old phones, and even my Android phone? Well, for starters, they could play games for up to 9 hours on one battery charge, or watch movies and videos for up to 15 hrs (this was a big battery drainer on their and my phones).
And, with all their apps that were installed, in addition to the 9 pre-installed Google apps, they have yet to run out of space.

My girls are loving their new phone, and in the next few days we should have the other phone which I bought yesterday, so they will not be fighting over who gets this cool new phone to use over their slower old ones. When my girls aren't showing off the different phone features they like using or playing their games online, I can usually find them texting their friends about their cool new phones, and telling them the should ask Santa to bring them their own NUU Mobile smartphone, which they hear from me is affordable and comes with 3 months of free service. :-) They are like a condensed commercial for NUU how they describe this phone and the special holiday offer. But, if I was a kid and had been asking and hoping Santa would bring me a phone for Christmas, I know I would be talking with the same enthusiasm as they have been. The new NUU G1 Smartphone really is a great starter phone for kids of all ages, and with the added 3 month FREE text, talk and data promotion from Mint Mobile, and 2 day FREE Fed-Ex shipping (so it arrives before Christmas), you can't go wrong with this $99.00 smartphone deal.
