While it is nice to receive toys for the holidays, don't forget about educational products for kids, as toys will eventually get old, but products that can help with your child's learning can come in handy when they are struggling with things like learning sight words and reading, and it will become the best gift they could have ever received.

The Think Tank Scholar flash cards are an excellent teaching tool for both parents and teachers. Even though my girls know how to read, it was a struggle for my youngest daughter to read. For the longest time she just wasn't having it. Her sister could pick up a book and read it cover to cover in no time. But, when it was time to do independent reading, my youngest would complain or stare off, not wanting to sit and try and read, and build her vocabulary and reading speed and comprehension. So, I looked online for something that would make learning sight words fun, and get her excited about wanting to read. This is when I stumbled across the Think Tank Scholar website and their flash cards. This was just what I had been looking for.

I showed my youngest daughter the cards, and she was like, "Not more flash cards." See, we tried flash cards and sight word posters in the past, but they weren't fun and engaging. But, I told her these were different and to give them a try. I started with the easy Pre-k and Grade K words for her, as I knew if she could read these, she would feel confident and get excited, seeing how quickly she was reading the words. And, that she did!
We advanced to the Grade 2 and then Grade 3 cards, sing the different teaching methods and games. With over 100+ words in each grade level pack, my daughter was so excited she knew so many words and could read them without any issue. When we weren't practicing the flash cards, I found her grabbing them from the table to go through them. She loved showing them off to my husband, to show just how well she could read, and all the words she knew.
I will say, that when we did get the Grade 3 cards, that there were about a dozen words she had to practice and memorize. But with repeated use of these flash cards, in no time she had the words down. In addition to using these flash cards to help with word recognition, I have also been using them as part of our homeschool for quick pop up spelling tests. I will say a word, that I know the girls can read, and then have them spell. Then, I show them the cards and they check their work. If they spelled the word wrong, they will have to write it 5 times each. This has made the girls better spellers, and also want to grab these flash card pack from Think Tank Scholar to go through on their own practicing words and their spellings.
So, as you can see, these flash card packs will grow with kids. They will start using them to recognize common words, and then can use them with the fun games, and then to help them learn proper spelling of the sight words.
