This photo popped up yesterday on my Facebook news feed, and I couldn't help but smile, as it was of my youngest daughter back in 2013, sitting with my mother, learning how to crochet.
Now 5 years later, my daughter is still crocheting, and loves when my mom comes to visit, as she usually bring down her craft bag filled with crochet projects she is working on. Depending on the season, or if someone is having a baby, she is usually making blankets, scarfs, etc. But, whenever Bella or I stumble across a cute crochet pattern online for animals and characters my girls like, my mom will work her crochet magic and make fun crochet toys for the girls. Then, when she brings them down, she will sit with my youngest daughter and teach her how to make them, so that she can make more. A couple months ago my mom was making mini food for the girls to use with their 18" dolls and in their doll house.
And, now thanks to the Animal Planet Safari Crochet kit we were recently set, she and my daughter are working together to make the lion and warthog that you can make with the contents of this kit. In addition to these two adorable crochet animals, the Animal Planet Crochet book also shares step by step instructions on how to make other safari animals including a crocodile, hippo, ostrich, rhino and zebra, to name a few. In total, you can crochet 12 wild projects to crochet and snuggle, or display (like my daughter likes to do). There is enough yarn in this kit to make the lion and warthog, as well as start on other animals mentioned in the full-color step-by-step crochet book.
My mom recently came for Thanksgiving, and after we were done eating, she and my daughter excused themselves to the living room, where they grabbed this book set, and started working on their crochet animals. In no time at all, they had the two projects made, and a game plan to buy more yarn so that they could continue through the winter months crocheting up a a menagerie of safari animals for my daughter to play with and enjoy.
While this book is perfect for those with experience crocheting, a beginning can still learn by following the step-by-step instructions. My mom taught me how to sew and crochet as a kid, but I didn't get into it like my youngest daughter has. But, after looking through the instructions and recalling back to what I was taught, I was able to work my own magic to make a giraffe the other night.
If you love crocheting and safari animals, then this Animal Planet Safari Crochet kit is for you. This would also make for a great gift idea this holiday season for a grandmother to pick up and share with her grandchild, to teach them how to crochet. In no time you will be stitching up a menagerie of adorable wildlife thanks to this fun kit from Animal Planet and Thunder Bay Press.
