My oldest daughter is all about cats and dogs. Whenever we go out and she sees something in the store related to them, she wants them. And, that holds true with books. She has a nice collection going of dog and cat chapter books, and can whiz right through them, as they are about a topic she loves. It is nice seeing her get so excited about reading, and having books to choose from based upon her likes. Now, my other daughter, it is a struggle to get her to read, but she is slowly getting better as she sees my oldest enjoying reading and wanting to save her allowance money so that she can go to the bookstore to buy another book, or stop by the library to take out books to read.
Last week, we received a fun cat chapter book from Jenny Dale's Kitten Tales series in the mail, thanks to the folks at IPG Books and Pan Macmillan. The book, titled, "Felix the Fluffy Kitten and Other Kitten Tales" combines four books into one, which I love as it means less books to pick up off the floor when my daughter forgets to pick them up, and it also gets my daughter excited about wanting to read all the books within this one bound book. I wish you could have saw my daughter's face when I showed her book. She kept saying, "Oh, look how cute the gray cat is" on the cover -- she has always wanted a gray cat of her own, but our youngest is allergic, so she has to settle for cat plush toys and books like these to get her cat fix. Then, she flipped to the table of contents to see which books were included in this 4-in-1. They are as follows:
- Felix the Fluffy Kitten
- Snuggles the Sleepy Kitten
- Start the Snowy Kitten
- Nell the Naughty Kitten
As soon as she read "Star the Snowy Kitten" she said I had to include this in my blog post as this would make for a great holiday book for young cat lovers like her. :-) Each of the books are around 70 pages each, and the words are big enough that even beginner chapter book readers will not get discouraged thinking there are so many words to read. And, there are also black and white sketches throughout the books to get young reader's imaginations going thinking about what they are reading, and what will happen next.
My daughter really enjoyed these four stories. She was not aware of the Jenny Dale's Kitten Tales series before getting this book, and now wants to pick up more. On the back cover she also noticed another series called Puppy Tales, which also has a book called "Crumble and Custard and Other Puppy Tales, which is also a 4-in-1 book. As soon as she saw this, she made a point to write it in her notebook of books to look for at the library and bookstore. She really enjoyed these four Kitten Tales stories, as they were about four different cats, each with their own stories to tell. We will definitely be keeping this author on our radar for now on as she has puppy and even horse chapter books out or in the works. If you have a beginner chapter reader who loves animals books, then you will want to check out this and other books from Jenny Dale.
