I am loving the books I was sent last month from Button Books, a publisher out of the UK, but that sells their books here in the USA. Google my blog and Button Books, or use the search button on the side bar of my website, to find the recent reviews I have done of books from this publisher. As part of my "Welcome in Fall with a Good Book Feature," I have a handful of their popular Romeo the dog books to share (stay tuned a review of these books will be up in the next day or so), as well as one my girls have really been enjoying and were excited to add to their collection - "My Illustrated Encyclopedia," by Alain Grée.
Now you would think that with all the books my girls have from reviews or personal purchase, or books I have bought for our homeschooling, that we would have a good encyclopedia for kids. I was surprised we didn't, but was happy to learn that the folks at Button Books had one and that it was tailored towards your children.
Here is more about "My Illustrated Encyclopedia":
"Alain Grée’s 'My Illustrated Encyclopedia' is the largest and most comprehensive title published to-date by Button Books using the iconic illustrations from the archives of Alain Grée. The book contains a beautiful and eclectic selection of many of Alain’s most well-known and loved images.
Covering a huge range of subject areas, including insects, birds, animals, fish, weather, farming, trees, flowers, transport and space, My Illustrated Encyclopedia is a stimulating and absorbing book for young children, brought to life by using the most charming of illustrations. The book provides the ideal opportunity for parents and young children to discuss the many subjects covered, giving children a wonderful platform to learn and ask questions about the world around them."

What really caught my eye and made me fall in love with this encyclopedia were the beautiful images that Grée chose to share, along with sharing fun facts about different subject matter, and leaving room for kids to ask parents more. This book is geared towards children ages 6+, even though younger children will be drawn in when you sit down and flip through the encyclopedia looking at the whimsical and playful photos and pointing out things like the seasons, types of boats, vegetables, the garden, insects and so much more. There are 80 pages in total, which cover a array of subject matter that will not only delight young readers/learners, but also spark their curiosity and make them want to learn more.
My girls and I are using this book as a reference and also as a way to choose new topics to study each month in additional to our school subjects. This month the girls chose space, and next month we will be studying the season.
If you have always wanted an encyclopedia for your children, but couldn't find one that was written just for them, well I am happy to say that I have found one that my girls and I love, and that has become a staple on our bookshelf. I highly recommend this book, and continue to rave about it with family and friends.
