Are you ready for fall? Sept. 22 is right around the corner, when we welcome in fall, and say goodbye to another summer that has seemed to go by way too fast. And, soon after we set our clocks back, we will be gearing up the craziness and fun of the holidays. My girls have already started pulling out their favorite holiday movies and books for Halloween and Thanksgiving, so that we can enjoy as these fall holidays fast approach.
If you live in New England like I do, then you were probably reaching for long pants and a sweatshirt or light coat this past weekend. Mother Nature sure does like to play tricks on us with her weather...a week of high 80's and then a weekend in the mid 60's. It was an unexpected chill after enjoy the heat all last week. And, to keep warm, we did some baking with the apples we picked at a nearby orchard, and made mulled cider to sip on after the girls and my husband came back from the playground. The girls in unison walked in the door and said "Brr" when I asked how it was outside. I told them tomorrow will be another cold day, but then like only Mother Nature can do, it will be back in high 70's and low 80's the rest of week, with on and on rain.
This is the perfect weather for snuggling up on the couch with a warm blanket to watch a movie or catch up on a good book, and to enjoy hot chocolate. My friends and family know I am all about hot chocolate. I drink it almost every day -- no kidding. Usually I end my night's with a cup of cocoa and snack on whatever the girls have baked up recently, as I sit down at my computer to do some work. It is my "me time" and way to unwind after a long day, or to get ready for a busy week ahead.
Recently, I was asked to participate in a Precious Moments campaign to remind my readers that this year is Precious Moments' 40th Anniversary, and that they have some wonderful new figurines and products to mark this milestone.
To celebrate the occasion, I was sent a figurine of choosing. After looking at Precious Moments website, I kept finding myself going back to their "Share the Gift of Love" figurine. Why? It has a boy and a girl sitting at a table enjoying a cup of coffee, or in my case hot chocolate.
When I first met my husband 20+ years ago, our first date was at our college's cafe. We met up for hot chocolate on a cold fall day, and got to know each other. When he asked what I wanted to drink at the cafe, I said hot chocolate, which surprised him, as he thought every time he saw me in the cafe with my friends that I was drinking coffee, to help cram for tests. I told him it was hot chocolate, and that it was my go to comfort drink, as it reminded me of home, and as a kid my mom making my brothers and I a cup of hot chocolate to enjoy off the bus, along with cookies she made.
Every date that we went on from that point on, included a nightcap of hot chocolate. Either we would grab a cup and go for a walk at a nearby park, or sit in the cafe on those chilly nights in the fall/winter. And, after we graduated and moved in together, it became a staple to have hot chocolate almost every night. I will say that when the summer months arrive, my husband is reluctant to indulge in a cup of hot chocolate at night as it will just get him hotter. But, he will still join me on the couch as the girls lay in bed and read a book before lights out, as we catch up after a busy day, with a cup of tea or coffee, depending on his mood, while he makes me a frothy hot chocolate to enjoy.
I laughed when I saw this figurine up close as my husband got me a set of coffee mugs that look just like disposable cups like the ones in the figurine, to enjoy our night-time hot chocolates in, to celebrate our anniversary early in the year. He said he saw them at the store and it reminded him of our first day, and dates thereafter, where we enjoyed hot chocolate together. So, when he got home that night, I showed him my new Precious Moments figurine and he instantly knew why I chose this one, and said it looked just like our first day. :-)
I have shared in past Precious Moments posts how my mom started Christmas ornament collections for myself to give me when I moved out and got a place of my own, and is now doing it for my girls, so that they will have a set of ornaments for their first trees.
And, now I wanted to share this cute new figurine and why it represents another memory in my life, that is beautifully captured with the help of Precious Moments figurine. I have a collection of figurines, and each and every one holds a special meaning or time in my life. And, I know I am not alone, as this is why Precious Moments has been around for so long, and continues to turn out popular figurines that collectors like me snatch up to add to our collections.
