I liked this quote from the movie, "Dream Big," -- "Shape our future, powered only by imagination." Thanks to engineers and dreamers, some of the world's tallest buildings and robots have been built, as well as other innovations that have helped to create a more sustainable future for us all. This DVD is all about the engineers past and present who have created man-made marvels big and small, all from a dream or vision they had.
Another favorite quote in the movie is "Joy of engineering the future belongs to the young...so start dreaming big" -- this DVD will transform the way you think about engineering, as you celebrate the human ingenuity behind some of the most amazing engineering marvels of today. You will see engineers pushing the boundaries to make the impossible possible. This DVD is truly one that inspires our youth especially to dream big, and get a glimpse into the amazing career of being an engineer. If you have a child who likes to build and dream of building structures, robots, etc., then you will definitely want to share this wonderful DVD with them. It will not only spark their interest further, but will also let them see that things are not impossible...you just have to dream big.
My girls and I really enjoyed watching this DVD, which includes 2 DVDs. This edition includes the full length movie, as well a 150-page educator's guide (12 lesson plans, including handouts), which is perfect for homeschooling families like mine, as well as teachers looking to inspire today's youth to be dreamers of the future. This educational edition also includes 10 educational shorts, 8 behind-the-scenes featurettes and 8 more short "Fun Fact" videos (which were a hit with my girls). Usually you don't get all this extra educational content with a DVD, and have to scour the Internet to pull something together to extend the lesson beyond the DVD. But, thanks to all the extra content, especially the lesson plans, this makes teaching about engineering and STEM to children a piece of cake. I love having all the leg work done for me, so that I concentrate on doing fun hands on activities and well-thought out lessons with the girls. While we haven't done all 12 lesson plans and handouts yet, I have printed them out and will be using them in the coming months as we delve more into careers and how engineers think and build amazing structures and things that help better the future.
This is one movie we will be watching over and over again, and one I will be sharing with family and friends and other homeschooling families who love sharing STEM-based programs with their kids. I know that once you sit down and watch "Dream Big," with your family, you will see why I love it so much, and how great this educational 2-DVD edition is.
