We are starting another new Easter tradition this year, thanks to the Star from Afar: The Easter Story Egg, which contains a hardcover book and a set of nesting eggs that correspond to the 7 different stories that make up the book, and that align with Holy Week (Palm Sunday through Easter). You may recall me sharing a review at Christmastime with Star from Afar's Christmas book. This Easter set follows similar styling. And, being fans of the Christmas set, I couldn't wait to share this new Easter tradition with my family.
I fell in love with the book after reading the first short story. Each of the stories are written in rhyme and verse and the illustrations that fill the pages really do a wonderful job at bringing the stories to life. Easter is one of those holidays like Christmas that young children don't really understand the true meaning of. My girls are finally at the age that we can talk about religion and how the different holidays center around events in the Bible. Thanks to this book, which I shared with them the other day now shares the true meaning of Easter, in a fun and easy to understand way for even the youngest of children to grasp and enjoy.
Like I said, in addition to the hardcover book that comes with The Easter Story Egg, there are also 7 wooden nesting eggs that correspond to each story and have beautiful illustrations on them. My girls love nesting eggs, and couldn't wait to un-nest each egg to see how many there were and if there was anything in the smallest egg. They stopped to admire the illustrations and I shared with them before we read the different stories how each of the eggs go with them. This got the girls excited and they couldn't wait to read the book and play with the nesting eggs further.
The premise of the set is to share one of the seven stories a day leading beginning on Palm Sunday and leading up to Easter. So you can say it is an advent countdown of sorts, but much for fun with the nesting eggs. With each story comes a Bible verse you share with your child, that can kickstart a discussion with your child about the story and how it relates to the Bible and the true meaning of Easter.
And, each day you read a story you un-nest an egg. On the seventh day you will be left with one final egg which is the stone blackening the tomb, and when opened up is empty. When my first un-nested all the eggs they didn't get the significance of the last egg, but after reading the stories in order they understand stood, and thought it was a powerful ending to the 7 days of Easter.
Overall, we have enjoyed this Easter tradition book and nesting set from Star from Afar and will be looking forward to counting down to Easter with this wonderful set this year and going forward. If you are looking for a unique and fun way to share the true meaning of Easter with your family, and love adding new traditions to your family's holiday celebrations, then you will definitely want to check out the Easter Story Egg. It is a great way to celebrate the true meaning of Easter -- teaching children of all ages about the days leading up to Jesus' death and resurrection -- thanks to the thoughtfully written and illustrations book of 7 days of Easter.
