Valentine's Day Gift Guide: Kids Will Love Going to Bed Just to Use their Playbrites from Jay@Play (Review)

Do you dread bedtime with your child?  Besides the struggle to brush their teeth and getting them to change, the whole going to bed thing can be stressful.  I used to laugh when my Mom would tell stories about how my brothers and I would get up for water, bathroom breaks, etc. and her many struggles to get us to go to bed on time and stay in bed.  I never remembered that. :-)  And, once I had kids of my own I never expected bedtime to be so hard.  You would think that kids would be so tired after a busy day of school, playing, etc, and would fall peacefully asleep after the last bedtime story was read.  Wishful thinking.  If only there was something to make bedtime more enjoyable (and bearable for parents)?  Well, now there is, thanks to the folks at Jay@Play (yes, the ones behind the oh so popular flipable friend, FlipaZoo).  They recently came out with a new product called Playbrites, which are part interchangeable toy and part magic light show.  

The kind folks at Jay@Play sent along their Puppy and Kitty Playbrites for my girls to try out and help me review, and as soon as my girls saw me take them out of the box the other day, they couldn't stop looking at them and wanting to play with them.  

I made them wait until right before bed to explain what Playbrites were, and then let them put the play face pieces into their Playbrite body, before showing them the best part of this toy -- the magical light show.

The girls loved the fact that they could switch face pieces with each other, and when they weren't using the pieces, liked how the face pieces stored into the body, and that there was an attachable handle so you could carry around or bring to Nana and Papa's house for a sleepover.

The girls were so excited when I pushed on the bases of their Playbrites to light them up.  And, as I turned off the lights and placed their Playbrites on their nightstands next to their beds, I had them stare at their ceiling for the real magic -- a sparkling light show that lit up their entire ceiling with fun images.  

Savannah chose the puppy Playbrites and her magic light show projected dog bones and stars on her bedroom ceiling, while Bella's Kitty Playbrite lit up her ceiling with flowers and stars.  

My girls were so excited to see the color-changing magical light show and felt more relaxed as they laid there in bed, staring up at the ceiling.  And, the most magically thing happened, next to the girls seeing the Playbrite's light show...they fell asleep on their own.  :-)  Yes, you read that right.  I had walked about for a few minutes to finish tidying up downstairs and told them both to just relax and enjoy the magical light show on their ceiling, and as they did this, they grew tired and fell asleep.  It was simply amazing.  

And, the next night and the nights that have followed since we welcomed these cute and oh so lovable Playbrites into our home, bedtime has been a breeze.  The girls now look forward to bedtime and even rush me to finish up the bedtime reading, so that they can shut their lights off and turn on their Playbrites, to enjoy the magical light show.  These light shows are on a timer, so I don't have to worry about going in and trying to shut them off, and chance waking the girls up. :-)

With Valentine's Day and even Easter fast approaching, why not consider picking up a Playbrite for your child?  The hard part will be choosing the first Playbrite to buy them. And, once they see how you can buy more characters and mix and match their face pieces, they will want more.  I know, as my girls are already asking for the rabbit and dinosaur to add to their Playbrites collection.  

They said it would be super cool to have a few different magical light shows projected on their ceilings at bedtime...and, I would have to agree with them. :-)
