Has your house been hit with the flu or other illness? This has turned out to be a bad cold season for sure...so many children and adults dying from flu and pneumonia complications, it is really scary. We had our pneumonia and cold bouts the end of December straight through January. And, ever since then we have been laying low and trying to avoid packed public places to help lower our chances of getting sick again. So, date nights my husband and I have had planned have been scrapped, as we don't want to bring home any germs to the girls, or chance getting sick ourselves. So, instead of dinner and a movie out, we have been having fun date nights at home. After the girls go to bed, we cook up a meal together in the kitchen, and then sit down to enjoy a hot homecooked meal, while watching a good movie. Comedies are great to watch, especially after a hectic week, as you don't have to think too much while watching the film, and can just sit back and laugh.
The other night I surprised my husband with Daddy's Home 2 DVD, along with a fun viewing party kit I was set to help with our viewing of this new release.
My husband couldn't help but smile when I showed him his very own "Best DADDY Ever" mug, which when you tilt up to drink from says "#1!" You can't have a movie night without popcorn, so it was nice to have a bag of popcorn and cute "Best Pop Pop Ever" container to pour the freshly popped popcorn in to enjoy as we snuggled up on the couch to enjoy this new release. I joked with my husband that he finally has his very own little black book to keep his ladies numbers in, like Dusty and his Dad probably had. He knew how to respond, "You're the only one for me." He better. :-) The next day he ended up wearing the Daddy's Home 2 t-shirt to the gym at work and had friends stop him and ask him about the movie, as they hadn't seen it but heard good things about it. My husband couldn't stop raving about how funny it was, and how he liked it more than the first. The Daddy's Home 2 movie alone would have made for a great date night in, but with these added Daddy's Home 2 goodies, are movie night was extra special and fun. :-)
We saw the first Daddy's Home movie at the movies for a date night, but missed the sequel. So, this was one of the movies my husband was hoping I would pick up when it released to watch together. As we settled in with a great meal, we got ourselves ready to laugh the night away. I wondered if this movie would be as fun as the first, or if like many sequels it would fall flat. I am happy to report that this movie was even funnier than the first. And, with the addition of John Lithgow and Mel Gibson, it made the movie that much more enjoyable, and with more laughs. I loved how Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell played sons to John Lithgow and Mel Gibson. When I pictured Dusty's dad, I was thinking of a cocky, arrogant guy that had to be good looking, like Dusty was -- and, in strolls Mel Gibson winking and flashing a grin as he makes his way down the escalator at the airport. Then, came John Lithgow, and when he made his way to Brad (played by Will Ferrell), you couldn't help but laugh as this father/son pairing is perfect. This introduction of the dads sets the stage for the whole movie, and starts the laughs that just keep coming as the film plays on, right up until the end. There were some touching moments throughout the film, as the families blended together trying to make the most of Christmas together, but for the most part you will find yourself laughing and wanting to replay scenes as they are so funny.
My husband and I had so much fun watching Daddy's Home 2 the other evening, and we can't wait to watch it again soon. If you are looking for a funny date night movie to share with your sweetie during one of your upcoming in-home date nights, or just want a fun family-friendly movie (perfect for tweens and above), then you will want to pick up Daddy's Home 2, available starting today on Blu-Ray and DVD. This movie released a couple weeks ago on digital, if you prefer this viewing option.
