“Showing people the amazing life beneath the waves is the way to preserve our oceans for future generations,” Minton says. “Knowledge is power.”
One of the beautiful things about homeschooling my girls is that we can focus on topics the girls love and really delve into them. One subject my girls love to learn about an explore is about ocean life. We are lucky enough to have an aquarium within a hour's drive from us, so we find ourselves there a lot, walking through the exhibits and visiting with all the fish. The girls love the touch tanks and hands on classes the Mystic Aquarium offers.
Because the girls love learning about fish, especially tropical reef fish, I found myself looking online for books to share with them. My search led me to Tam Warner Milton's recent release, "All Fish Faces: Photos and Fun Facts about Tropical Reef Fish. The author's name sounded familiar and then I remembered she is a popular travel blogger who blogs at Travels with Tam. I have followed her blog and love her writing style, so was eager to get my hands on a copy of her book to share with the girls.
I was sent a copy of Tam's book and was so excited to share with the girls. As soon as I received the book in the mail, I couldn't help but flip through the pages. "Wow." I couldn't get over the amazing up-close images of the all the different tropical reef fish. And, the best part, next to the awesome images was the wonderful educational facts that were shared about the different fish. So, not only was this a great book to look at and admire the beautiful tropical reef fish, but the girls would also be learning fun facts, too.
My girls thoroughly enjoyed this book, and now want to go deep sea diving so that they can see some of their favorite tropical reef fish up close like Tam did. It must be an amazing experience to go diving and see these fish up close. And, thanks to Tam and her new book, she captures the wonders of ocean for all to enjoy.
If your child loves fish, then then will love flipping through this book to admire the images, while you share fun facts, as well as the advice Tam shares about how to help these ocean friends stay healthy and have a safe home for many years to come. My girls love grabbing this book from the bookshelf and flipping through the pages. My youngest will grab with doodle pad and draw her favorite fish to display on the fridge. And, now my girls have a list of fish they want to find at the aquarium thanks to Tam's book, which has peaked their interest further about tropical reef fish.
This book would make for a great holiday gift, paired with cute tropical fish plush, a fish bowl starter kit, or some fun tropical fish arts and crafts kits. Your kids will enjoy this book now and for years to come.
