Check Out These Two New Level 2 Readers from the Emmy Award-Winning Peg + Cat Animated Series (Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent samples from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Do you have a Peg + Cat fan in your house? My oldest daughter, Savannah, loves this PBS Kids series. At first she tuned in because of the cat in the title as she is a huge cat lover.  But, after watching the first episode when this Emmy Award winning series premiered she was hooked.  She loved how Peg and cat went on fun adventures while also solving math problems.  Who says you can't have fun and learn at the same time? The Peg + Cat is a great example of this, as the girls have learned the basics of fractions, measuring and adding and subtracting.

In addition to watching this series on PBS Kids, my girls have a growing collection of DVDs from the show so that they can bring the fun along when we go for car rides. And, now, thanks to the folks at Candlewick Press, Savannah can enjoy some of her favorite episodes in book format, thanks to the dozen Peg + Cat books available.  I love seeing Savannah get excited about math and reading, and she loves that some of her favorite shows like Peg + Cat can be read about in a book.

We were recently sent the following two Peg + Cat books from the folks at Candlewick Press...

Peg + Cat: The Big Dog Problem

"Peg’s mom has given her and Cat five important letters to mail. “She says it’s because we’re growing up,” says Peg. And sure enough, the height marks on the wall show that they’re getting taller! But there’s a problem: when they get to the mailbox, they find a very big dog sitting in front of it. How can they get around or behind this scary-looking canine to mail the letters? Or could it be that they’re jumping to conclusions — and the obstacle itself might help them reach a solution?

How do Peg and Cat measure up? Mailing some important letters proves a tall order as the two friends learn about height."

Peg + Cat: The Pirate Problem

"When Peg and Cat encounter hungry pirates by the seashore, they’ve got to think fast. Pirates get cranky when they’re hungry, and when pirates are cranky, they sing — really badly! To spare their ears, Peg and Cat must make sure each pirate gets his fair share of fruit — the same amount for everyone. And when a sneaky monkey steals a few peaches, Peg and Cat have to divide the fruit up all over again. Will they be able to give everyone an equal share and keep those pirates from singing really badly?

Can Peg and Cat keep the peace among some hungry pirates? Figuring out how to divvy up a pile of peaches turns into a handy lesson on fair sharing."

---

Savannah was all excited when she saw me take them out of the box, and couldn't wait to sit down on the couch and read them.  She was quick to call her sister over and said that they would be going on an adventure with Peg + Cat and that she would need Bella's help to help solve some of the tricky math problems in the story.  Bella got all excited and was ready to help and listen.

These books are great for beginner readers as they are level 2 readers.  They have engaging plots, short chapters, and medium-length sentences.  Kids will feel like they are growing up with the book content and format, and will be adding new words to their growing vocabulary.

My girls thoroughly enjoyed these new Peg + Cat books and have been reading them throughout the day, having me read them at bedtime, and Savannah has also been bringing in the car to change it up instead of watching one of her DVD's or listening to the radio.  I really love that she is into books like this, and she is looking forward to getting some of the previously released books in this series for the holidays, and can't wait to grow her Peg + Cat book collection even more.

To learn about these two and the many other Peg + Cat books available from Candlewick Press, head on over to their website today.
