TEACH FOR AMERICA IS READY FOR READ FOR THE RECORD
Join my girls and I and so many others on October 19, 2017 to be a part of the world’s largest shared reading experience — bringing together over 2 million people each year in classrooms, libraries, community centers, and homes across the US. I was first introduced to this annual campaign last year when I took my girls for story time at our local library and the children's librarian was reading that year's "Read for the Record" book. She informed the parents and caregivers about this fun campaign and her reasons for wanting to participate. I had totally forgot about this campaign for 2017, but thanks to the folks at Penguin Random House, they were kind enough to send me a reminder email and asked if I wanted to share news about Jumpstart's 12th Annual Read for the Record Day, which is happening all across the USA this Thursday, October 19th. I will be sent a copy of Quacker's which everyone will be reading to share with my girls as part of our daily homeschooling. We haven't read this book yet, so it will be a fun day all around -- not only helping to break the record, but also to enjoy snuggle time with my girls reading books, and helping to develop their literacy skills further with a fun book. I hope you will join me in participating in this annual campaign. You can purchase the book online, or read on to find our how you can access a FREE digital version, to share with your children on Thursday.
More about Read for the Record Day:
"This annual campaign was launched over a decade ago to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills for EVERY child, so that all children have the opportunity to enter kindergarten prepared to succeed.
When you register to read, you’ll receive campaign news and updates on all things Read for the Record. Plus, we’ll include the number of children and adults you anticipate to read within our record-breaking total. Signing up is easy, FREE, and only takes a few minutes!
This year’s Read for the Record book is Quackers, by Liz Wong, a delightful story about a kitten who grows up believing he’s a duck, until the days he meets another kitten. What follows is a sweet tale about understanding, acceptance, and learning it’s ok to be whoever you want to be.
Remember to read again on October 19, 2017 and click any Read for the Record logo on the online book to report your numbers to be counted towards our attempt at breaking the world reading record! The full online version of the book is available FREE from October 12—30th in both English and Spanish."
Disclosure: I will be provided with a complimentary book from the publisher in exchange for promoting this annual Read for the Record campaign. All views shared are mine and mine alone.
