AvoSeedo LLC was founded in 2015 by entrepreneur Daniel Kalliontizis after a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $65,000 thanks to more than 4000 backers. In addition to its flagship AvoSeedo avocado germinator bowl that makes it easy for everyone to grow their own avocado tree at home, AvoSeedo.com has everything amateur avocado arborists of all ages could want.
Recently, we were sent an AvoSeedo to review, and I have to admit, at first I wondered if the girls would be up for trying it out. When it arrived and they opened the package, they had no idea what it was. Bella even said it didn't look fun, when I told her it was going to be for a school experiment we would do. I had to show them the video (see below) about the AvoSeedo and talked to them about how easy it would be to grow an avocado tree at at home. After seeing the video, they were curious as to how the AvoSeedo worked and were up for trying it.
Key Features:
-Easy to use for all ages of amateur avocado arborists
-Clever AvoSeedo bowl design keeps the avocado pit immersed in just the right amount of water to grow effectively
-Made for durability from recyclable, non-toxic materials
-Reusable for other vegetables like lettuce, celery, carrot tops!
How It Works:
You can germinate and grow an avocado tree in your own home, whatever the climate. This is a fun family (Millennial parents, their young kids, grandma/grandpa) project to make a tree sprout and watch it grow from the pit of a common avocado. And, it helps increase your child's understanding of ecology, interconnections in nature, responsibility and care for the environment in a participatory and concrete way.
Watch how to grow an Avocado tree with AvoSeedo:
1. Get an avocado, cut it open and remove the pit
2. Peel away the thin skin from the avocado pit
3. Put the pit flat part down into the AvoSeedo tray
4. Place the AvoSeedo tray with avocado pit into a bowl of water
5. Change the water every two to three weeks
6.The seed will sprout and a tiny avocado tree will grow after one to three months
7. Transfer the budding tree into a pot
8. Reuse the AvoSeedo to grow more avocados

Last week we made a special stop at the market after a class to pick up an avocado and ingredients for homemade guacamole. Then, we went home to prepare our guacamole and prep our avocado pit for planting in our new AvoSeedo. As you can see in the above video, there really isn't much to using the AvoSeedo. Just make sure you have a sturdy and larger enough container to rest your AvoSeedo in.
Even though we don't have an avocado yet, the girls get excited each morning and go and check in on the new avocado plant to see if a tree is growing yet. I know that once it starts sprouting, the girls will be ecstatic. I, for one, am curious to see the fruits of our labor and taste our very own home grown avocado. :-)
So, with the holidays fast approaching, don't stress over what to get those hard to shop for people on your list. Just ask yourself, "Do they love avocado?" And, if the answer is "Yes," then you have the perfect gift for them...that they probable don't have. They my scratch their heads at first when they unwrap the AvoSeedo, but just like my girls were, they will be curious and wonder how easy it is to actually grow an avocado tree at home and want to give the AvoSeedo a try.
