Susie Ghahremani’s adorable authorial debut that combines early math concepts with the antics of silly cats is officially out in the world! STACK THE CATS has already earned two starred reviews from Kirkus and Booklist, who lauded the book as “as fun as it is clever.”
Do you have a cat lover in your house? My oldest daughter, Savannah, is in love with cats. If she could get one, she would have already had a cat by now. But, unfortunately, our youngest daughter, Bella, is allergic, as is my mother. So, instead, Savannah has to settle for plush cats...which I have already lost count of how many she has. :-)
When this book arrived at our door, Savannah had the biggest grin on her face. She couldn't wait to read the book and admire the photos of the cats. Savannah is reading level 1 and 2 beginner reader books, so she was excited when she flipped through the pages and saw that she could read this book on her own. She was quick to gather up an armful of her favorite plush cats and sat them on the couch. Then, she pulled up a chair and read to her cats and her little sister.
I loved listening to Savannah reading this book on her own. And, when it got to the page where it showed how 3+3+3=9, I liked how she let Bella use her cats on the couch to figure out the math problem and show that this equation gives you 9. Both my girls had a blast reading this book, and they continue to reach for this book at bedtime. It has yet to make its way to the bookshelf as Savannah usually brings it to bed with her, or will bring along when we go for car rides. She loves reading the story and admire the cats that stack and add up.
Beginner readers and little ones who love cats, will definitely love this cute story about cats who stack until they get to 10. This book is great for little ones learning to count, as it is a great visualization for them as they flip through the pages and see the cats add up one by one. So, if you are looking for a fun book that is all about cats and counting from 1-10, then you will want to get your hands on a copy of this book. Once you share this cute story with your kids, you will see them wanting you to read it time and again. This is one book my girls haven't grown tired of, and will be reading and enjoying for some time.

About this new release:
Adorable cats get into all sorts of silly trouble in award-winning illustrator Susie Ghahremani’s debut picture book, STACK THE CATS (Abrams Appleseed, May 2017, ISBN 978-1-4197-2349- 0, $14.95).
One cat sleeps. Two cats play. Three cats? Stack! With a simple
color palette and delightful illustrations, STACK THE CATS
begins as a silly counting book for young readers. As the
number of cats increases, the book gently adds more complex
mathematical concepts—four and five cats teeter and totter, but six cats can
comfortably stack in two groups of three. The cats and stacks increase until ten cats are
just too many! The countdown begins as the cats exit by ones and twos, leaving behind
a lone three-cat stack. The book’s final page invites the reader to imagine how they
would stack the cats and encourages young minds to play with key early math skills.
