One of my favorite things about Christmastime is picking up new movies to watch with the girls. We started a new tradition last week where we unwrap a new holiday book and DVD in the AM as we count down until Christmas. Either during the day or after dinner we sit together and watch the movie and then at bedtime I read the holiday book to the girls. It was a huge hit last year, and I can't wait to start again this year with the girls. This year, though, the girls have already asked if I could wrap some of their favorite holiday books and DVDs from last year and watch again. I think this is a great idea, and will be doing it.
One movie we will be wrapping and watching again is "Snowtime." This animated feature came out yesterday on 3D Blu-ray/ DVD/Digital Combo Pack. We had the opportunity to review this movie last week when we were sent a screener copy. It seems like every year the girls start getting into the holiday spirit earlier and earlier. Maybe it is because most stores start pushing Christmas late Sept., or at least before Halloween is over. And, this year is no different. Before the girls went trick or treating, they were already working on their wish lists for Santa and making decorations to hang up around the house. And, now they are itching to put up the Christmas tree, which we usually do on Thanksgiving.
When they saw "Snowtime" arrive at the toy, they asked what it was about, as they had never heard about it. I was quick to show them the trailer (see below) which I saw a month earlier, and fell in love with the movie. This is one holiday movie I couldn't wait to watch with the girls. Once the trailer was over, the girls agreed that it looked like a cool movie and one they wanted to see. So, after lunch and schoolwork the other day, we snuggled up on the couch with some popcorn and watch "Snowtime".
Growing up I used to love snow days and no school. This would mean that the neighborhood kids would get together and build snow forts and have snowball fights. It was so much fun and one of my favorite cherished memories of my youth. "Snowtime" reminded me my snow day memories as it is about a group of kids who build these elaborate -- you really have to see how amazing they are (I would love to walk in one of these) and have a snowball battle like no other. In order to win the snowball fight in this movie, a team has to occupy the fort. But, as the movie goes on, we see that this playful snowball fight turns into conflict and people start taking sides and friendships are in jeopardy. Will this tear the kids apart, or can they find a way to come together and really enjoy snow and time together? Don't worry I will not spoil the movie for you. You will just have to pick up a copy of the film and watch with your family to find out. :-)

While the girls wait for all the fun of Christmas time, they are enjoying helping me review all the different holiday movies and products coming to the door. And, "Snowtime" is definitely one movie you will want to pick up and share with your family.
