After Thanksgiving dinner this year when everyone retreated into the living room to find a spot to sit and let their belly's rest, I surprised everyone by putting on the recently released (October 4th) The Andy Griffith Show: Christmas Special DVD on, for all to enjoy. This DVD special features classic episodes (in color and black and white) including the Christmas Story and the The Pickle Story, which was a favorite amongst the children.
While all the adults in the room know about Mayberry Lane and this iconic show, the kids were reluctant to sit and watch the DVD. They said, "Ah, not another walk down memory lane for the old people" or questioned what it was. But, as the DVD started playing, they sat watching the the Scrooge story and then the Pickle (aka kerosene cucumbers).
Everyone in the room was smiling and laughing, as we either relieved our childhood watching this holiday special over the years, or being introduced to the Andy Griffith Show for the first time. In the end, everyone was happy they watched the DVD and we were able to say we enjoyed quality time together, getting in the holiday spirit.
About this DVD:
"Bring the heartwarming joy of Mayberry into your home with The Andy Griffith Show Christmas Special, as broadcast on CBS. Also included are unedited versions of the two episodes contained therein, both colorized and in black and white. In The Christmas Story, local ‘Scrooge’ Ben Weaver manages to have harmless bootlegger Sam Muggins thrown into jail on Christmas, but the good folks of Mayberry have a unique plan of their own. In The Pickle Story, Aunt Bee decides to enter her homemade pickles in the annual county fair contest – only they taste like “kerosene cucumbers!”"
Disclosure: I was sent a screener copy from the vendor in order to write up an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.
(Enjoy the The Andy Griffith Show: Colorized Christmas Special with Your Family This Holiday Season (Review) I love this great show, my oldest son and I use to watch it all the time back in the seventies together.
