Christmas is fast approaching. Have you started your holiday shopping yet, or began to pull out your decorations or tree yet? My youngest is turning four years old tomorrow and her request for her birthday this year was for a tree decorating party, where my girls and their friends could make ornaments for the tree, watch holiday movies and snack on Christmas-inspired treats and cake. :-) It was not hard for me to say "Yes" as I love the Christmas season. I am one of those people who asks if it is time to start to listen to Christmas music. And, I can't wait for the television stations to start releasing their holiday movie listings. Thanks to the Hallmark Channel, I have been getting my late-night fix of holiday movies, as they started running their Christmas movies right after Halloween. :-)
So, as we make final preparations for Bella's party this weekend, which will also include a visit to Essex, CT to ride the Polar Express and see Santa and Mrs. Claus, we have "The Nutcracker Sweet" near the DVD to share with the girls and their friends, as it became an instant with my two after watching it last week.
Here is more about this recent DVD release from Cinedigm, which hit store shelves last Tuesday...
Synopsis:
"It is Christmas Eve and the Silberhaus children are excited for the festivities to begin. Marie and Fritz are playing in the children’s room when their godfather Drosselmayer arrives and presents them with an early Christmas gift, a Nutcracker. Marie witnesses a great battle between a vast army of toy soldiers led by the Nutcracker against a terrible platoon of mice commanded by the Mouse King. Follow Marie and Fritz’s journey in the Kingdom of Dolls, through the Christmas Forest, past the Almond Milk Sea, and the Palace of the Marzipans."

I have been a fan of the Nutcracker ever since I was a child, and can't wait until the girls are a little older to take them to see the ballet. But, for now, I love being able to introduce them to classic holiday stories in a fun animated way. At only 84 minutes in length, this DVD is perfect for children of all ages. My girls were hooked from the beginning, and sat through the credits. Then, they asked when they could watch it again. :-) They even practiced their ballet as they got ready for bed that night, and spent the next few days talking about the movie and the Nutcracker. This is partly what got Bella interested in hosting a Christmas-themed birthday party -- tree and all. :-)
If you love adding new movies to your growing holiday DVD collection, this is one DVD that is a must. This has become a holiday favorite in our house, as we have already watched it a dozen times, and will be enjoyed for years to come.
