As children we find ourselves wishing we could grow up faster just to be an independent adult. But, we don't realize that being an adult is tough and has many responsibilities like paying bills, having a mortgage, car loan, supporting a family, etc.  Not really fun stuff when you compare it to the carefree life of a child.  And, when we become parents and see our kids wishing they were older, we find ourselves wishing they could stay little for as long as possible, and enjoy it.  Why?  Because we now know being an adult means that your parents and grandparents (if you are lucky enough to still have them around) will need your help as they, too, age.

Instead of deciding between which toy to play with, you are making harder decisions like "Can we provide the necessary elder home care so that Mom or Dad or Nana or Papa can stay in their homes, where they want to be, instead of putting them in a home?"  Tougher decisions right?  Try telling this to a tween/teen looking to be an adult.  They will not comprehend this until they are in your shoes.  I know as my parents told me this way back when and I didn't believe them.  We think that our parents will be around for a long long time, but sometimes this is not the case.  Or, that they will be healthy...never factoring in things like cancer, strokes, Alzheimer's, dementia, etc.

What is HomeHero and how did it come about?....

Since launching in 2014, HomeHero is the fastest, most-affordable way for families to find quality in-home care for seniors.

"Founders Kyle Hill and Mike Townsend watched for many years the struggles their parents went through finding, hiring and managing reliable in-home care for their grandparents. Kyle even learned that his father, a theatre professor at The Ohio State University, had to take an extended leave of absence from teaching so he could fly to Seattle (where his mother lived) and interview caregivers. He was receiving timesheets in the mail, sending checks across the country, and had zero accountability when his caregivers were in the home or what they were doing while there.

Kyle and Mike quickly realized that the country's home care system was old, antiquated and had been grossly neglected by the tech industry for too long. It was only inevitable that a marketplace company would come in and consolidate this highly-fragmented market using technology. In doing so, they could help millions of families afford quality home care, and disrupt the fastest-growing industry in America."

I love when I stumble upon companies like HomeHero that were created to help solve a problem and not just to make money.  Kyle Hill and Mike Townsend were feeling the same frustration as many of us do that have aging seniors in our lives.  The big thing is where do you start?  And, what should you be looking for when it comes to senior home care?

We were recently faced with a tough decision when it comes to caring for my grandmother, who has early stages of Alzheimer's.  She always made it clear that she wanted to stay home until she takes her last breath.  But, there was no one able to stay with her in her home 24/7.  We all work or have families to take care of.  And, with poor health insurance and no benefits to live off of, my parents, my siblings and I found ourselves sitting around the dining room table talking about options.  While a nursing home seemed to be the best fit, offering round the clock care, we also knew the wishes of our grandmother and wanted to try to keep our promise to her.

So, we started to research in-home care and found that is was not an easy process.  There are so many websites out there, but none had the answers to our questions.  Then, I was approached to review HomeHero and thought this a calling of sorts.  Simply by filling out an online form that took less than a minute, you are matched with a Hero in my area and then contacted by a care advisor who walked my family and I through the next steps.

I don't know about you, but I love when there is a step-by-step process, as I feel I am not forgetting things, and the process seems to go much smoothly.  After a few phone calls with the care advisor and meeting with the HomeHero you are matched with, you are ready to provide quality care to your loved one in their or your home.

What I thought was so cool about HomeHero and set it apart from others is that you can watch video interviews of each of the caregivers.  If you have had to deal with interviewing home care workers or facilities you know how time consuming and hectic this can be, trying to coordinate everyone's schedules to be present for these interviews.

And, for many of us who have aging elders with little or no income coming in each month to use towards in-home care and services, I like how HomeHero offers rates that are 30-40% less than other elder care agencies.

My parents, who are not fans of contacts loved how there are no contracts, hourly minimums or hidden cots.  With HomeHero, you are able to choose the caregiver right for your family member and the hours you need their services.  So easy!

While HomeHero is only available in CA at this time, I for one, can't wait until it is offered nationwide, as it will take the guesswork and stress out of finding affordable and quality in-home care for folks like my grandmother, while we go about with our other responsibilities of working a full-time job and/or taking care of the kids.

I know that there will come a time when I will have to sit down with my siblings and talk about elder care options for my parents, and hopefully when this time comes, HomeHero will become our hero in elder home care.

When you find yourself having to step up and make tough decisions for your parents or grandparents, you wish there were places that could help and ease your concerns about making the right choices senior home care. Thanks to HomeHero, making the right choices for your parents and grandparents has gotten so much easier.

Every family deserves access to trusted and affordable home care for their aging loved-ones, and this is what they get when they use HomeHero.  If you have a aging senior in your life or have been struggling like so many families to find just the right in-home care for your family member, why not check out HomeHero?  You will quickly see why HomeHero is becoming a favorite among caregivers everywhere.

  1. I have not heard of this company before but it sounds so wonderful. It is so important for seniors to remain in their homes if they can.
