While I sometimes miss not working outside the home, I would never change my decision to become a stay at home mom.Being able to watch my girls grow and learn, and spend quality time with them each day has made my life complete. Yes, there are days that I wish I could get in the car and drive to work, not having to worry about temper tantrums or their fighting, I know that this is just a phase they are going through and that they will not stay little forever. :-)
Before I became a stay at home mom, and before I battled cancer in 2008, I used to be a health educator. I used to go into the community and schools and educate people on various health concerns and topics, through seminars, health fairs, etc. My role as a health educator also opened doors and introduced me to some amazing people and non profits like the American Red Cross. For over 5 years, I worked with volunteers and employees of the American Red Cross when putting on events for certain health awareness events, or simply teaching and certifying medical staff at the hospital I worked at, as well as the general in first aid and/or CPR. You could say that I had my dream job...and, I loved every minute of it!
When partnering with non profit organizations like the American Red Cross, I learned about their missions and partnerships with local groups and organizations. The ARC in particular fascinated me, as they seemed to be everywhere, and always ready to lend a hand to those in need. For those displaced due to a house fire or disasters like Hurricane Sandy, the American Red Cross steps in and offers up comfort and support, in addition to shelter and food, all with the help of generous volunteers and donations. They also supply about 40% of the nation's blood, by hosting blood drives throughout the country. The American Red Cross also helps military members and families during emergencies, as well as providing international humanitarian aid. What don't they help with?
But, being a not-for-profit organization means that the American Red Cross relies on support from the public as well as companies to show their support through volunteerism and monetary donations. I was excited to learn that Master Lock, the world’s largest manufacturer of padlocks, recently kicked off their #MasterLockProtects campaign to help raise money and awareness for the American Red Cross.
How you can help with this campaign...
By continuing to focus on helping consumers stay safe, Master Lock's yearlong campaign will be dedicated to safety through every life stage and season. To kick off the campaign, Master Lock is asking consumers via Twitter to share the time in their life when safety and security has been most top of mind. For every tweet posted with the hashtag #MasterLockProtects a $1 donation will be made to the American Red Cross up to $10,000. The campaign will continue throughout the year with a series of safety tips and advice for every life stage and season."
So, how would you answer this question....“When in your life has safety and security been most top of mind?” For me, safety and security became top priorities when we welcomed our girls. We made a point to child proof our home, to keep the girls safe as they grow and explore. But, we also know the importance of teaching them to be safe, and what to do in case of a fire by continually going over our family's fire safety plan.
“Each new life stage and
season brings new adventures, excitement and memories. It also brings new
safety and security considerations. From childhood, to marriage, homeownership,
retirement and beyond, Master Lock is there to help protect consumers as their
security needs evolve with these memorable life events,” said Rebecca Smith,
vice president, marketing for Master Lock. “Through this campaign, Master Lock
will show its dedication to providing a full range of reliable, easy-to-use
products as well as resources consumers need to keep themselves, loved ones and
valuables safe throughout the year and their lives.”
I hope you will join me in sharing your responses to this question, which in turn will donate $1 to the American Red Cross. Not only will you feel good knowing you are helping an amazing non-profit like the American Red Cross, but who knows, maybe you will be one of the lucky 20 participants chosen to win a prize bundle. :-)
Now through
January 31, everyone who tweets their reply to this question -- “When in your life has safety and security been most top of mind?” -- using #MasterLockProtects will generate a $1 donation to the American Red Cross and will
be entered for the chance to win one of 20 prize bundles. Each winner will
receive a $100 Visa gift card and various Master Lock products to help keep
consumers safe through different life stages and seasons.
"Master Lock will donate an
initial $10,000 to the American Red Cross and will donate up to an additional
$10,000 based on consumer participation in the sweepstakes for a total of
$20,000 in donations – just one way the company hopes to keep consumers safe
and secure through all life stages and seasons. Master Lock’s donation will
support the urgent needs of the American Red Cross mission, whether it is
responding to a disaster, collecting lifesaving blood, teaching skills to save
a life, or assisting military members and their families during emergencies. This
marks the second Twitter sweepstakes that Master Lock has hosted to benefit the
American Red Cross. In 2014, Master Lock donated more than $15,000 to the organization."
