Ever since we took the girls to the country fair this summer and they saw the carnival games where you could win your own goldfish, they have been asking for a fish of their own.  But, being only 3 and 4 yrs. old, we don't think they are ready for the glass fish bowl in their room, or a larger fish tank in the house, as they still have tantrums where they like to throw their toys or stumble into things to knock them over.  The last thing I want to have to worry about during their outbursts and trying to cover the fish tank to prevent it from being knocked over.  I am also afraid the girls will try to feed the fish more than it needs to be, and then be disappointed if it passes away.

But, with the holidays comes kids asking for their own pets.  From dogs, cat, birds and even hamsters, we have been hearing it all while shopping for dog food recently at the pet store.  And, then when the girls saw the fish tanks filled with colorful fish along the back wall, they were back to asking for a fish of their own - preferably Nemo. :-)
