“GOODNIGHT, GOODNIGHT CONSTRUCTION SITE…AND MORE STORIES ABOUT WORK” AND “HI! FLY GUY…AND OTHER ANIMAL ANTICS” DVDs NOW AVAILABLE!
Many of my homeschooling friends swear by the Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVDs, as a great way to teach and enforce curriculum that they are teaching. Since welcoming my girls, I have started to share these DVDs with them, as many take classic stories and bring them to life through fun animated shorts.
When I heard that Cinedigm was releasing "Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site" to DVD I knew two girls who would love to watch this DVD, which includes the popular children's story written and illustrated Sherri Duskey Rinker and Tom Lichtenheld. In addition to this story, this new DVD also includes 3 other cute stories, including "I'm Fast," "Officer Buckle and Gloria" and "That Book Worm."
Trucks and trains lead this faithfully adapted DVD release, perfectly designed for kindergartners through second graders!
"Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site, by Sherri Duskey Rinker and Tom Lichtenheld, is a New York Times bestselling children’s book, reaching #1 in January 2012, and has received rave reviews and awards. Bonus includes Read-Along and interviews with Sherri Duskey Rinker, Heather Henson and David Small, and a School visit with Kate and Jim McMullan!
Synopsis:
As the sun sets behind the big construction site, all the hardworking trucks get ready to say goodnight. One by one, Crane Truck, Cement Mixer, Dump Truck, Bulldozer, and Excavator finish their work and lie down to rest – so they’ll be ready for another day of rough and tough construction play!"
Besides seeing some of my girls' favorite stories that I read to them at bedtime come to life on the television screen, another fun feature of Scholastic Storybook Treasures is that you can read along with the stories on screen with your child, or choose to have the story ready to them. Even though my girls are not learning to read yet, this feature will definitely come in handy when they do. For now, I am pointing out different letters and using the read along feature for letter recognition with Savannah. She is even surprising me by pointing out small words she knows. :-)
In addition to the "Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site!" DVD, the folks at Cinedigm and Scholastic Storybook Treasures also released another fun read-along DVD for kids, "Hi! Fly Guy." Like the other DVD, this recent release also contains 4 stories, as well as interviews with the authors.
Perfectly designed for kindergartners through second graders to boost reading skills!
"HI! FLY GUY is faithfully adapted from the New York Times bestselling children series Fly Guy. Written and illustrated by Edgar Award winner Ted Arnold, whose other titles include I Spy Guy, Detective Blue, No More Water in the Tub and more; HI! FLY GUY won the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award and the ALA Notable Book and Notable Video. Bonus includes Read-Along and interviews with Tedd Arnold and Julie Fogliano!
Synopsis:
A fly changes some minds in this tale—first, by astounding the lad who captures him in a jar, then, thanks to some fancy flying, by convincing the lad's parents, the judges of the Amazing Pet Show, that he's more than just a nuisance. A pop-eyed, self-confident mite, Fly Guy's up to any challenge."
The stories included on this DVD include:
- Hi! Fly Guy
- And Then It's Spring
- The Ant and the Grasshopper
- The Mysterious Tadpole
The above stories do a wonderful job in teaching children of all ages about science, pets and music. While these DVDs are recommended for children ages 3-7 yrs. old, my 8 and 10 yr. old nieces also enjoy watching them with the girls, too. And, with the winter break fast approaching for kids, why not pick up these or other fun Scholastic Storybook Treasures titles to share with them. These DVDs also make for great entertaining on snow days, or when the kids are under the weather. And, for the most part, kids don't know they are learning, until they story ends. They just think they are enjoying some of their favorite stories brought to live through a colorful animated short.
Disclosure: I was sent screener copies from the vendor in order to write up an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.
