As the year begins to come to a close, I can't help but start to look back and see where I started on Jan. 1st and where I have come, in regards to my work and personal life. My girls are growing up so fast and impressing me each and every day. And, I have written over 4800 blog posts since I began back in 2009. In addition, I have had to say goodbye to a few dear friends, as well as watch others suffer illness and go on their own personal healthy journeys. But, through it all, I have to say that I am truly blesses with my life and being able to still be here, 6 years in remission, to watch my girls grow, and continue the wild ride called "life."
Even though I am positive most days, there are some days that my long-term side effects of cancer, as well as my arthritis want to bring me down. In addition to praying and thanking God for all that I have, I also like to pick up an inspiration book to be reminded that others out there have fought similar battles or are going through far worse than I have ever imagined. My book of choice is usually a Chicken Soup for the Soul book. And, I have found myself reading a few of these the past month, cover to cover, as I lay awake at night, tending to sick children. I shared in a past post how the girls picked up hand, foot and mouth at preschool, as well as had a head cold that seemed to linger. Then, the unthinkable happened, Savannah suffered a febrile seizure due to a temperature spike caused by the viral infection. I have never been more scared in my life, and found myself questioning faith, than that night when my daughter lay helpful in my arms, for over 30 minutes, having a seizure for the first time, before passing out.
One book that helped me through the past few weeks and the girls not feeling well as "Chicken Soup for Your Soul: Find Your Inner Strength," which shared inspirational stories of those who have overcome challenges, while staying positive. I found myself laughing, crying and feeling a sense of inner peace come over me as I read each and every story, and made a point to step back, breath and remind myself, "this to shall pass" and when it does, everything will be OK. I was amazed at these stories of resilience and positive thinking about challenges others faced and how they overcome them to move forward and carry on with their lives. These stories and what I went through recently with the girls is just a reminder that there will be bumps in the road, and that we are not alone, as others also face obstacles and challenges, that will test their inner strength.
