Growing up as the 3rd child, I always found myself getting hand me down toys and had to deal with flipping through magazines that my brothers would have already solved the puzzles. But, thanks to my mom who saw how excited I got at the doctor's office one day flipping open a Highlights magazine to find the "Hidden Pictures" challenge unsolved, she surprised me on my 8th birthday with a Highlights magazine. And, every year thereafter until I was in middle school, I loved getting mail addressed to me each month, including my own copy of Highlights. And, now, years later, I get to share my love of being a Highlights Kid with my two girls. Like their mom, they love getting their own Highlights magazine each month in the mail, and we have a blast sitting down together to read the stories, sing the songs, and solves the puzzles, including the "Hidden Pictures" challenge. I love being able to share a little of my childhood memories with my girls, and love that Highlights is still around after all these years. They continue to turn out amazing educational magazines and products, and make gift giving at the holidays and birthdays easier, as I know my girls can't get enough Highlights. How about you?
Were You a Highlights Kid?
"Were you one of those kids who rushed to the mailbox each month to see what Goofus and Gallant™ were up to? Did you grumble when you arrived at the dentist office to find someone had already circled the objects in the Hidden Pictures® puzzles? Millions of other people did too! Highlights for Children is celebrating those types of nostalgic memories with “I Was a Highlights Kid,” a Facebook-based campaign filled with fun, interactive games and activities.
Click here to visit the Highlights to peruse old covers of the magazine, race your friends to see who can solve the Hidden Pictures puzzles the fastest, and take a fun quiz to determine if you’re more like Goofus or Gallant."
