Does your house smell like flowers? Or, are you just "noseblind"?
When it comes to your child's birthday, do you make a big deal about it? I mean, do you celebrate for an entire week or even a month? I remember back when I was a child, my brothers and I would have a birthday party with our friends one day and then another small family dinner with extended family. But, we never spent a whole week celebrating -- that is until I had children of my own and my parents became grandparents. Now, the week of my girls' birthday is a time of celebration. From pre-birthday surprise gifts to day trips, their birthday is a celebration...which, I don't mind. :-)
With that being said, we are just a couple days away from Savannah's 4th birthday on July 19th. Wow! I can't believe how quickly time flies. It feels like she was just learning how to walk. Now, she is a preschooler, and looking more and more like a "big girl" each and every day. Her birthday week thus far has consisted of day trips with my parents, fireworks from a rain delayed event from the 4th, which Savannah thought was especially for her, and shopping trips to pick up a few gifts for herself. She has been having a blast, and can't wait until tomorrow, when we will be heading to Lake Compounce in central CT for a day of rides and time spent at the water park, followed by an overnight stay at the new campground that opened on the park's grounds. Don't worry, we will not be roughing it...instead, we will be staying in an air conditioned cabin with cable and WiFi. :-) And, then, upon our return we will be heading to Build-A-Bear to make her My Little Pony Applejack and dinner at the Rain Forest Cafe with my parents. What a birthday week, right?
Thankfully, my parents came down a day early so that I could pack and do last minute errands before we go away. And, while the girls finally napped this afternoon, my parents and I enjoyed a movie. But, before we could sit down and enjoy the movie, I shared with my parents the Febreze Noseblind experience the folks at Febreze asked me and 1-2 people outside of my household to participate in.
"Noseblindness is a nasal condition where you become accustomed to the odors around you over time, which are created by the odor cycle. Odors from various activities are released inside your home where they can stay airborne or deposit on the soft surfaces that act like odor-magnets. As a result, most suffer from noseblindness in their natural habitat, where they perceive a certain scent as "home," but don't detect this familiar scent as malodorous. This can be particularly embarrassing when entertaining guests. You are left wondering what your guests are smelling, as you have become "nasally challenged" within the environment. A guest can instantly detect a masked odor."
After reading the instructions to them about how the Noseblind test experience would work, we had to take a few surveys online. The first one was to rate the air quality of my home. We couldn't talk about how we rated things. Then, I was asked to pop butter popcorn for all to enjoy. Once the popcorn was popped, we took the second survey will again asked up to rate the area quality and asked about the popcorn scent in the air and how tolerable it was. Again, we couldn't share our thoughts with each other.
The next step in the Noseblind test was to watch the movie, before following up with another quick survey online. This survey asked us to rate the air quality that we experienced through the movie and after. Once this survey was done, I showed my parents the assortment of Febreze products I was sent to try out. Included in the package was the following:
· 1 Febreze Air Effects
· 1 Febreze Fabric Refresher
· 1 Febreze Noticeables with refill
· 1 Febreze Candle
Out of my two parents, my dad is the one who is big on spraying room fresheners around the house, or lighting candles to mask smells. But, he has commented on several occasions how these products never really take the odors away, and only mask them for a short time. He thought that him and my mom had tried Febreze products before, as it is a popular brand, but my mom was quick to point out that they hadn't. So, this was their first time in experiencing the scents and products. My mom had always thought that Febreze scents were too strong, but couldn't remember who told her this. She went on this misinformed information and never gave the brand a try. I, on the other hand, have been a fan of Febreze products, especially their fabric freshener, as we let the dogs sleep on the bed and couch, and after a rainy day, we are left with a wet dog smell. Also, with little ones who always seem to get into things, there are always smells around the house that we wonder where they came from...from wet diapers thrown in a corner, to a food spill, leave it to the girls to create questionable smells that leave my husband and I reaching for Febreze products to rid the air of these unpleasant odors.
I started by lighting the Febreze Candle and had it burning in the kitchen. We have an open kitchen/dining room/living room space on the main floor of the house, so you don't need a lot of product to rid the entire space of unwanted smells. And, like they say, a little goes a long way, especially with the Febreze Air Effects room spray. While the candle burned, I made a circle around the open space, spraying the Febreze Air Effects in the air.
Within a matters of minutes, the burnt popcorn (oops), stale popcorn smell and wet dog smells that everyone has shared on the online surveys we took, had gone away. In its place, we were left with a pleasant smell thanks to the Meadow and Rain Febreze Air Effects spray and matching scented Febreze candle I was burning. My parents were amazed at how quickly these two products worked and how they didn't mask the smell for a short time, but instead rid the air of them for good. I know that if they were impressed, that others out there who have never tried Febreze products will be, too.
Are you a fan of Febreze products? Do you have a favorite scent? For me, I like the floral or tropical smells. Not only are they pleasing and not overpowering on the nose, but they are also calming. I find myself thinking about summer or vacation when I smell the tropical scents, and floral scents have always been a favorite of mine. And, around the holidays, I can't help but pick up the seasonal scents to add a little scent to the air and take out the odors that are present, but that I have grown used to and can't detect, but guests can. Yes, my house may be dirty due to having children and not having enough time to clean it as thoroughly as I would like each week. But, with the help of products from Febreze, I can tackle unpleasant odors in the air in minutes, and not wonder if guests are smelling things I can't...and, that they don't want to tell me. Would you ever tell a hostess about a funny smell in their house? This was one question on the Noseblind survey, of which my parents and I all answered "No." We didn't think it was our place. But, we all agreed that talking about products like Febreze may be a subtle hint that will not upset or embarrass a hostess. what do you think?
If you are looking for something fun to do the next time you are expecting guests -- why not consider doing a Febreze Noseblind Experience Test like my parents and I did earlier today? All you need is a good movie, popcorn (butter works best and tastes great!) and a few Febreze products. See if you and your guests become "noseblind" to the smells in your house, after sitting for awhile.
It was fun to try this little experiment with my parents and see just how "noseblind" we get in our own homes. So, why not give it a try today and see what "home scents" you have grown accustomed to, but that others can smell when they walk into your home -- and, say goodbye to these smells for good, with the help of Febreze's popular product line.
And, don't forget to share your own Noseblind Experience with Febreze on their Twitter and Facebook Fan Page. Be sure to use the hashtag #Noseblind when sharing about your personal experience.
