How has your summer been going? This is the first summer in two years that we haven't had to stay home due to sick children, most of it. So, we are really enjoying going on mini stay-cations or traveling up north to NH to stay at my family's summer home. And, whenever we are near water, we make every effort to get out on the water, either by tagging on with family and friends :-) , renting a boat or booking a day cruise. I grew up spending summers on the water with my family, and love being able to make new "on the water" summer memories with our girls. :-)
My family kicked off our summer by visiting RI and renting a beach house, where we took advantage of pontoon boats and canoeing with the girls. And, then this past 4th of July, we took the girls to stay at my parent's summer home in NH and rented a boat, so that the girls, along with my husband and I, and parents, could enjoy time out on the water. We had so much fun, and I even was able to get a little tubing in, which I haven't done in years. Savannah can't wait until she is old enough and knows how to swim, so that she can do it, too! But, in the meantime, she and Bella love putting on their life jackets, having me pack snacks, and spending the day out on the water. No motion sickness in our family when it comes to boating, which is great! We can just pack up stuff for a day out on the water and lounge around, and take in the beauty of the water and surrounding coves and beaches.
If your family boats, have you had any memorable summer trips yet? I would love to hear about them, so please share in the comments section below. If you haven't had a chance to get your feet wet, or get out on the water yet, do you have plans as we count down the final weeks of summer? We will be heading up north for a few days over the Labor Day weekend, and can't wait to rent a boat again, and enjoy the last days of summer with the girls, soaking up the sun and catching the fireworks, while out on the boat. My dad has also promised to teach Savannah how to fish, and has even got her her own tackle box and Dora fishing rod. I can't wait to see this, as I used to love fishing with my dad when I was little. And, now, I will get to see my daughter fishing with him. :-) I am so blessed to have a healthy and happy family, and be able to spend time doing things I grew up loving with my kids. Boating has been in my blood, and now my girls are being fans of recreational boating, thanks to their early exposure. I can't wait until they get older and hear what some of their favorite boating memories are. :-)
Like I have shared before, we sold our boat when I was diagnosed with cancer back in 2008, as I wasn't sure how many time we would enjoy time out on the water, and I didn't see paying the slip charges and maintenance for it, while I was in treatment. But, now that I am 5 years in remission, and am getting out on the water more frequently with the family, my husband and I are seriously thinking about buying another boat, to enjoy next year. While renting has been fun and a breeze thanks to the resources I have found through Discover Boating, it is still nice if you are an avid recreational boating family to have a boat of your own.
In the market for a boat, or looking for fun destinations to visit to take full advantage of on the water fun, you'll want to make a point to visit Discover Boating, which is the "U.S. recreational boating industry’s nonprofit awareness program to help people get on the water to experience the fun of boating. From links to educational courses, to nautical lingo and how-to videos and even tips on what to pack for a day out on the water, DiscoverBoating.com offers so much valuable information for recreational boaters. You will also find a section dedicated to boating activities that can be enjoyed by children and adults of all ages and boating/swimming abilities, a Spousal Conversion Kit section, which offers videos and tips to persuade your significant other to become a boater or at least try it out for the first time. I have recommended the Youth Boating Programs section to family and friends with children looking to learn safe boating practices and show kids the fun of recreational boating.

Thanks for sharing, I'm happy that you and your family are about to get out and about this summer. We haven't hit the water yet this summer but we plan to. I love going down the local rivers and swimming during the summer.

A beach house sounds like so much fun! I would love to take my family for a day on a boat or canoeing. We love the lakes near our home nd being out in the water.
