One thing that I learned after becoming a mom is that it is OK to have a dirty house.  It was hard going from being a neat freak to realizing that when you have little ones, there is not enough time in the day to get everything done.  And, the few minutes you find to yourself throughout the day are priceless and not to be wasted on going crazy cleaning the house.  As the kids get older, you also find that you can spend all day cleaning the house, but it only takes kids mere minutes to turn it upside down.  But, hey, they saw that kids are only little for a short time and to enjoy every minute of it.  I am doing just that, as I have learned to give up the thought of a clean house 24/7 and enjoy little feet running around the house. :-)

Even though I can't have the house clean 24/7, I still dont' want to  have to worry about smelling dirty diapers, especially during the hot summer months.  And, with Bella being super sensitive to perfumes and fragrances, I limit the number of room sprays and candles we burn.  I have also learned that these don't really mask dirty diaper smells, like many parents hope will when they are expecting guests or see an unexpected visitor pull into the driveway and you turn on speed clean mode to get ready for them.  Come on, you know you do this to. :-)

I never knew how many diapers one child would go through in a day, until I have my first daughter.  Then, the following year, we welcomed our second daughter, and that number doubled, as did the $$$ spent buying boxes of diapers.  In a given week, we could go through a handful of wipes packages, as well a full box of jumbo sized diapers.  And, don't get me started on those times that the girls have upset bellies or the stomach bug, which seems to be more frequent during the winter and summer months when we visit attractions with a lot of people and germs.  It is triple the diapers then.  But, where do I stick all the diapers?  That is easy to answer...in one of our three diaper genie diaper disposals.

We started out with one when we were expecting Savannah, and after her arrival ended up picking up another one, so that I could have one in our bedroom and one in hers.

When, we welcomed Bella the following year, we went out and bought two more -- one for her room and another for the living/dining/play room area of the house, which we seem to spend the most time in each day.  Each area that houses a Diaper Genie diaper disposal has its own diaper supply area, complete with diapers, container of wipes, diaper rash cream and a few diaper genie refills to replace the bag when we run out.  I love that the diaper genie is so compact and discreet, and that is doesn't take up much space.  In our living room, I have it tucked in the corner near the girls bookcase, with the refills and diaper supplies on the corner of the kitchen island.

It is so easy to grab a diaper when the girls need to be changed, and then walk over and dispose of it. Because this is the main level of the house, of which we spend the majority of our day, the diaper genie here gets a lot of use.  But, I don't have to worry about guests coming to visit and smelling dirty diapers, as the disposal does what it is supposed to -- act a place to store dirty diapers until ready to be thrown out and to keep the smell of dirty diapers inside the disposal.

I have had friends with little ones come over and ask where I was sticking the girls' diapers, as they couldn't seem to get the dirty diaper smell out of their house and were embarrassed when people came to visit, as they knew they could smell the diapers.  Their disposal systems were not as efficient and compact as the diaper genie system.  But, after I showed them what I was using, and how I had 5 in total in our house, they knew what they had to do -- say goodbye to their diaper disposals and buy a Diaper Genie pail, along with the compact and easy to install refills, which I buy at my local Target store.

I have also become the Diaper Genie gifter when it comes to giving baby shower gifts to new and expectant moms.  Because I am relatively new to the whole baby thing compared to friends who have children in grade school and beyond, people reach out to me to ask about what baby items they really need to add to a registry.  After going crazy buying all the so called must haves with Savannah, I was quick to learn that I didn't need all of this stuff, and most went unused, even though it cost a small fortune.  But, when Bella arrived, I had gotten rid of the stuff that we didn't need like baby bottle warmers, wipes warmers, tons of baby clothes, bottle pillow holders, etc.  I wish you could have seen the items I donated and gifted to others, as it was a lot.  Friends saw this and saw the money I had spent on it, so they are quick to ask "Do I really need this?" when they find out they are expecting for the first time, or having another child years after their others.  I have done the research on best brands, tried out various products to find the one that works best, and know what I did and didn't use with my girls, who are 2 1/2 yrs. and almost 4 yrs. old.

And, when I am invited to a baby shower, the first thing I look for on a baby registry to buy the expectant mom is a diaper genie and refill packs.  If I don't see a diaper disposal, I know the perfect gift for her, and know that it will come in handy.  Come on, like I said, I have 5 in my house right now, and love not having to run around trying to find plastic bags to put a stinky diaper in, while also trying to keep an eye on the girls.  Then, you have to worry about getting the plastic bag with the diaper in it out of the house ASAP, or you will start to smell it.  With the diaper genie, I simply step up the foot pedal to open the disposal, or have ones that you simply open the lid manually and push the diaper through the flap.  Then, the lid closes, and my worries about having a smelly house from dirty diapers is left behind.  This is one less thing I have to worry about as a busy mom to two girls in diapers (hopefully only one as Savannah is working hard on wearing her big girl panties, and Bella is copying).  Crossing my fingers that this stint of potty training takes for her. :-)

Are you expecting a baby soon, and looking for items to add to your baby registry...that you really need and will use?  Make sure you add a Diaper Genie disposal and Diaper Genie refills, which you can purchase individually, or in 2 or 3-packs packages, to your wish list, which you will find at your local Target store.

Or, if you need to buy a gift for a new or expectant mom, this is one must have, that is oftentimes overlooked or bought after moms realize the diaper disposal they have doesn't work well at keeping the smelly diapers stored until they are ready to be thrown out.  I can go a few days without having to take out a full bag of diapers thrown away in my diaper genies.  Even on these past hot days/nights, the diaper genies throughout our house, as working as they have been for the past few years, and keeping the dirty diaper smell away.

So, like I said in the beginning, even though my house is not 100% clean every day, I don't have to worry about masking dirty diaper smells in my house because I am using the diaper genie, which works great!  This gives me more time to spend with my girls, and enjoying company that stops by to visit, than having to run around the house lighting candles or spraying room spray to freshen up the air.  Who knew that one baby must have item can make the world of difference for a busy mom with little ones in diapers :-)

Yes, you read that right...get pampered!  As a mom to a baby or child of any age for that matter, we find ourselves putting our own needs to the side to care for our children and family.  When was the last time you took a day for yourself, hit the spa or did a little at home pampering for yourself?  Can't remember, right?  Well, I couldn't either, until I recently restocked on diaper genie refills and was able to use my purchase to get a $25 Spa Finder Wellness gift card, through a promotion going on now through July 31st.  After taking a photo of my store receipt and emailing it to the email address provided, I was sent my $25 Spa Finder Wellness gift card...it was that easy.  And, this past weekend, while my husband spent time with the girls, I went with a couple of girlfriends for a mini spa day, where we had a massage and our nails done.  Oh, how I missed taking time for me, and getting pampered like this.  It really does wonders and helps you recharge your batteries and relief stress and tension you hold in, while trying to keep your house in order.  I especially loved how I was able to score the $25 Spa Finder Wellness gift card just by making a purchase of the diaper genie refills from Target, which I do each month.  Sweet deal, that was a win-win for everyone! :-)
